Recruiting a SAP Implementation team for global oil manufacturing business
A well-established manufacturer to the oil and gas sector with an existing SAP implementation saw an upturn in the market, providing the confidence to implement SAP S/4HANA. The business headquarters, situated in Houston was the location for the SAP team from where the implementation would take place.
When recruiting for SAP professionals to join an existing team, it is really important in the hiring process to be clear on how and why the new members of staff will be contributing. In this case, the following modules needed consultants rather than lead roles: SAP FICO, SAP Sales and Distribution, SAP Logistics Execution, SAP Material Management, SAP Plant Maintenance, SAP Production Planning, SAP Business Intelligence, SAP Security, SAP BASIS and SAP ABAP.
To recruit for the SAP consultant roles for a business requires careful screening, as the implementation required many challenge stakeholders input. In terms of a skill set, the Petroplan team were looking to identify candidates who can demonstrate their experience in liaising with key business decision makers and end users. Furthermore, a consultant’s ability to gather requirements, advise and guide the business and to issue a specification and timelines is essential.
A really key role in this recruitment process was to source a great ABAP developer for the customisation that would ultimately result from the module enhancement path.

This came down to the screening process. Vigorous investigation of candidates’ experience for their SAP area, full life-cycle implementation and integration experience. Then attention to other areas such as where they can bring added value such as some knowledge of modules outside their core area, leadership attributes and individual contribution. Petroplan’s team placed all SAP consultants and are looking forward to finding the people for the next upgrade of enhancements.
