Senior Internal Controls Analyst - Owner / Operator - Oil & Gas - Houston, Texas

My client, an established Owner / Operator, are currently seeking a Senior Internal Controls Analyst to join them. This position, will assisting in setting up brand new Control Systems within a developing organization. This is a staff role, with an immediate start and will be based in Houston.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist in implementing, maintaining, and documenting the company's internal control environment, including SOX and other internal control initiatives (i.e. vendor audits, travel and expense audits, etc.);
  • Documenting assessment of risk as well as design and operating effectiveness of internal controls. Collaborate with consultants to assist with internal control projects as necessary;
  • Maintaining electronic tool for internal controls and SOX testing;
  • Assist in maintaining the accounting portion of the company portal / intranet;
  • Collaborate and communicate with various functional departments to create and update policies, process flow diagrams, narratives, and procedure documents;
  • Assist in documentation of control exceptions, deficiencies, and remediation plans for reporting to management and the Audit Committee;
  • Assist in creation of ERP reports, testing of new ERP functionality, and development of user training programs;
  • Provide timely updates to the team's schedule, control logs, and status reports based on work assigned;
  • Stay abreast of developments in accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls including new guidance. Assist in assessing the impact on internal controls, business processes, and IT systems;

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of public accounting or consulting experience primarily in audit or internal control consulting roles.
  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley, the COSO 2013 framework, and auditing standards (PCAOB, AICPA, etc.).
  • Experience in energy or construction sectors.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting or business administration.
  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects/priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to document processes, controls, and risks clearly and concisely.
  • Strong team building and interpersonal skills.

Our client is looking to recruit an experience Chief Financial Officer for a job opportunity in Accra.

Key responsibilities will include:

Financial and risk management operations of the company, including the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • MBA Finance
  • Chartered Accountant qualification
  • The ability to lead, motivate and provide expert accounting advice to the entire team
  • Detailed knowledge of the international Oil & Gas industry
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in an E&P company in the Oil and Gas industry, at least 5 of which must have been in an executive financial role
  • Commercial experience in the oil and gas industry is a plus
  • Sound grasp of Project Finance and fundamentals of upstream project economics
  • Demonstrable evidence of influencing, managing or controlling projects using an assurance/control framework and managing relationships and stakeholders in a complex and changing business environment
  • Proven Mentoring /Coaching & Training Skills
  • Proven appropriate management skills, Joint Venture management and senior stakeholder management experiences.
