Reporting to the project Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer will be a key contact between plant personnel and the project's contractors and consultants.

What you will do:

  • Work on a revamp project involving the ammonia and urea plants
  • Work with both internal plant personnel and external consultants/contractors to help progress the technical parts of the project through design, construction, commissioning, and startup
  • Coordinate the flow of technical information between the client, engineering contractor, construction contractor, and other external parties.
  • Manage a request-for-information (RFI) system and ensure requests are driven to conclusion and properly documented.
  • Find answers to questions among the plant's various data storage locations (both electronic and paper).
  • Ensure all standards/practices/checklists/codes are followed as required. Ensure advice from central engineering is sought and well-documented. Do not underestimate this task!
  • Ensure all engineering work meets APEGA requirements and client's PPMP.
  • Ensure all necessary engineering reviews are done and adequately followed up on, per client project management practices.
  • Use your own technical knowledge and expertise as necessary to provide advice to the project.
  • Review technical drawings, answer questions, clarify requirements, and generally ensure the project is achieving goals.
  • Ensure that review and commenting activities (both internal and external) are done in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all licensor requirements are incorporated into the detailed design.
  • Visit the operating units to look at operating conditions, verify field installations, take contractors on tours, etc.
  • Conduct/coordinate field reviews during the design and construction phases to minimize construction conflicts.



What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer designation or immediately eligible
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in mechanical or process engineering role. Experience on major capital projects and interfacing with engineering and supplier companies is preferred.
  • Owner experience in a plant environment
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven experience with planning, problem solving, and organization of complex projects
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Office and SAP
  • Knowledge of ammonia, urea, or syngas production
  • Familiarity with other engineering disciplines (eg. mechanical, instrumentation, etc.)
  • Previous experience in major capital projects

Assignment Scope: Key Accountabilities
* Focuses on the daily oversight of all assigned projects.

AP Administrator

  • You will use your expertise to:
  • Scan and index invoices as required
  • Review and verify invoices meet invoice submission requirements
  • Process invoices that meet standard invoice requirements (e.g. coding, correct legal, tax ID, etc.)
  • Apply defined processes to identify invoice discrepancies and follow appropriate actions to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner (e.g., pricing, quantity and payment terms)
  • Raise supplier issues and inquiries as needed for effective resolution
  • Engage the Team lead, Accounts Payable to obtain approval and resolution on discrepancies which fall outside individual approval tolerances
  • Manage the invoice payment schedule and operate within the supplier agreed framework for payment terms, improving discounts and minimizing interest charges
  • Develop and maintain methodologies and tools for accounts payable activities

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • One year of proven experience in an accounts payable role
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in business or accounting
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Office, MS Teams

Where you'll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the 150 - 6th Ave S.W. (subject to province wide restrictions in effect)
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
