Description

  • Provide construction guidance to projects and proposals throughout all project phases, using construction knowledge and experience.
  • Assist with aspects of the project construction strategies, execution planning, and contracting strategy.
  • Provide guidance to the assessment and selection of construction contractors.
  • Prepare, and review documents for approval to communicate installation sequencing, schedule timings, and resource requirements to project management and engineering leads, procurement, and the construction site management and supervision.
  • Prepare, and review for approval project-specific site procedures and work practices as vital to meet project requirements.
  • Provide Construction Engineering in accordance with project requirements and Home Office procedures.
  • Develop construction work packs (CWPs) to support project execution as the need arises
  • Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and the rest of the EMEA Team throughout the different project phases to improve the use of construction knowledge and experience in all aspects of the project paying particular attention to constructability.
  • Assist with construction feasibility and method studies.

Qualifications/Experience Required

You will have:

  • Proven experience in ASU construction including detailed knowledge of O2 installations and clean build techniques
  • Trade discipline background, with Degree or similar with equivalent experience in a construction-related position in Electrical, Instrument, Piping/Mechanical disciplines
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Experience with construction plans and specifications, tracking RFIs and submittals, and developing project documentation
  • Experience tracking and analysing cost and schedule and knowledge of Microsoft Project
  • Willingness to travel throughout Europe, Middle East, and North Africa lead site activities in challenging geographies
  • Ability to supervise multiple trade disciplines to include but not limited to; Civil & Structural, Piling, Mechanical and E&I
  • Have oversight and knowledge of HSE, Quality and Completions system handover

We are currently supporting our energy sector EPC client in recruiting a Senior Proposal Coordinator to join their team in Surrey on a staff basis.
This position is intended to support the Proposal Leaders (Proposals Director, Proposals Manager, Sr/Proposals Engineer, Estimating Lead etc.) through the complete cycle of RFIs, EOIs, SOIs, PQQs and proposal preparation all the way to contract award and handover.

We are currently looking for a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Air Separation Technology (AST) Design team. We are looking for a creative and an innovative Mechanical Engineer to be based at our European Headquarters in Surrey, United Kingdom.

The research engineers in the team display strong inter-personal skills and work together with the entire Air Separation Technology and Product Line teams to deliver full plant solutions from the laboratory to the field.

This position requires a Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in structural analysis and a broad knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals to design fabricated structures and mechanical components.

The candidate will be required to solve a variety of problems, which may involve plant layout optimization, packaging of plant equipment, high cycle fatigue, thermal stress, post-yield behaviour, high temperature creep, flow maldistribution, fluidization, solids handling, etc.

This position involves frequent travel to the R&D facility in Greater Manchester, UK and up to 10% travel to global locations.

The successful candidate will perform engineering & design work in support of new technology and lower cost products. The candidate will work as part of a cross-functional research, engineering & manufacturing team, designing from concept to completing process equipment, system components and manufacturing systems. In addition to analysis and testing of new designs, support for fabrication, construction, and project start-up may be required.

Existing project areas where the candidate can expect to be involved include:

  • Lead pilot-scale test programs at Carrington Internals Manufacturing Facility including design of process equipment as well as fatigue and stress analyses.
  • Lead mechanical design programs on standardization & optimization of air separation plant plot plans & packaging of air separation equipment
  • Improve manufacturing performance by identifying opportunities for automating operations, focusing on advanced manufacturing & sensing technologies and tools that are driven or enhanced by integrated information technology i.e., smart manufacturing and smart sensors.
  • Design and develop warm/cold vessels, adsorption equipment and distillation column internals for air separation systems
  • Perform stress and structural support analysis in support of various technology areas.
  • Lead external collaborations with vendors, universities, and test facilities for advancing mechanical & manufacturing capabilities
  • Write technical and scientific reports, project proposals, conference papers and presenting at academic and industrial events.

While no pre-existing knowledge of specific processes, software, or fabrication methods is required, the candidate will be expected to learn them as needed for specific projects. To that end, the following skills will be beneficial:

  • Understanding of adsorption, distillation, or heat exchange processes
  • Experience with cryogenic equipment, cyclic equipment (pressure swing/temperature swing) design and manufacturing
  • Experience with 3D CAD software including solid modelling (preferably with ANSYS Fluent)
  • Experience with finite element analysis (preferably with ANSYS Workbench)
  • Knowledge of machining techniques, fabrication methods and welding processes
  • Experience with pressure vessel and piping codes, including design-by-analysis methods
  • Experience working with vendors on prototype and initial mechanical designs
  • Experience with additive manufacturing technology

Qualifications / Skills

  • Minimum BS in mechanical engineering, PhD is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Certificate a plus.

Duties

  • Support the Civil/Structural Manager with the Departments activities.
  • Be the Lead Civil/Structural Engineer on Projects and manage the delivery of assigned work scopes.
  • Work up to Basic Engineering Phase and then hand over to the detail design Centre in India.
  • Able to work independently up to Basic Engineering and then execute the detail design using an external design Company.
  • When using an external Design Company be able to develop the scope of work for appointment, ensure information is issued to the External Design Company and ensure they meet the schedule.
  • Be involved in the execution strategies and upfront work for projects to meet the Basic Engineering Phase for the Civil and Structural scope. (Topological surveys, geotechnical investigations, drainage strategy, design basis, structural and foundation concepts)
  • Monitor the civil and structural critical quantities during the phases of the project suggesting improvements and limit any escalation.
  • Develop the Scope of Work for Plant Buildings 'design and build' contracts (e.g. compressor houses, office building maintenance Building- Prefabricated or site built.)
  • Develop the scope of work for other aspects of the civil scope as required
  • Provide technical support during Tenders and responding to construction queries.
  • Assist the Department in keeping up with national codes and revising in house standards and specifications to suit. Also input to work processes where improvement is identified.
  • Bring experience to suggest new economical ways in designing the work.
  • Involvement with proposals for future work such as estimating hours, determine foundation types and quantities for construction costs

You will have the following qualifications and experience;

  • Engineering degree in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered engineer in either the Institution of Civil Engineers or the Institution of Structural Engineers or equivalent recognized Institution.
  • Civil and Structural experience in a Process Design Industry.
  • Experience as the Civil and Structural Lead Engineer on projects (up to $1 Billion) to meet cost and schedule.

Shall be thoroughly proficient in all the tasks below;

  • Foundation design both shallow and piled for a variety of structures - dynamic equipment e.g., compressors, building foundations, static equipment and piperack structures.
  • The structural design of site built steelwork such as piperacks, buildings, Equipment supports.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical terminology and principles to understand the geotechnical data in soil Investigative reports and determine foundation types.
  • Understand the duration for various civil and structural tasks to assist in preparation of project schedules. costings and proposals.
  • Design of modular structures (piping modules, equipment skids).
  • Underground gravity drainage experience.
  • Have knowledge in the use of industry wide software package - STAAD-Pro.
  • Use of various international design standards - AISC, IBC, ASCE, Eurocodes.

Additional Notes

You will be required to have a good approach to health and safety with the ability to work across multi discipline teams.

You will be required to work independently representing the Civil Department and be effective in promoting and supporting all aspects of the work done in the Department. An all-round flexible Civil and Structural Engineer willing to commit time and effort to achieve project requirements

You must also be able to work with different cultures and diversity around the world, in particular with offices in US, India and China. Prepared to travel when required, both to site and other engineering offices. Typically 6 -8 weeks per year on a planned basis.
