Technical Safety & Reliability

  • Design risk identification and risk analysis.  
  • Action tracking and close-out.  
  • Reliability studies (such as FMECA and RAM analysis) and other specialist work as may be required from time to time 
  • Chairing group workshops such as HAZID and HAZOP 
  • Physical effect modelling, particularly pipeline dropped objects studies 
  • Provision of expert advice in design reviews 
  • Participation in TS&R discipline network activities and knowledge sharing 

Regulatory 

Provide advice and steer to study and project teams regarding safety regulation requirements, from field development planning stage through to operation and decommissioning, in conjunction with our Environmental experts 

Advise and contribute to safety cases and related compliance / permitting activity. 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Qualifications in Safety and / or Reliability Engineering.
  • Additional training and qualifications in hydrogen safety, renewable's reliability, and / or carbon capture would be welcome
  • Experience of engineering / project delivery 
  • Package / scope management 
  • Problem solving experience  
  • Experience in multi-stakeholder interaction 
  • Ability to understand the wide-ranging implications between a range of technical challenges.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Resource Planning & Allocation:

Monitoring of workload projection the team and ensuring that resources are planned, prioritised and allocated to deliver within timeline and as per quality expectation. Support activities can span from pre-FEED, FEED, tender and execution. This will involve review of resource management tool and ensuring timely review of MPF. When necessary, it may be needed to grow the team capacity, either through hiring of permanent or temporary staff, interface with peers in the group for temporary support, or look for external consultant help.

People & Competency Maintenance / Development:

Have a clear mapping of necessary technical and behavioural competencies within the team, to identify potential gaps and opportunities to grow individuals. Create clear development path plans, which teams members (graduates and more senior engineer) can refer to develop their own career. Develop a pro-active culture, whereby team members look beyond what they are being asked to deliver and feel empowered to provide suggestion and constructive feedback on best way to deliver a support scope (including challenging the unnecessary). Ensure that the team has access and is pro-efficient with the necessary software & tools to undertake the work.

Quality & Technical Assurance:

Develop the process and behaviour to support a strong technical assurance culture. This will involve close working with the technical assurance team to ensure that team members are accustomed to pro-active contribution to design review. Part of the key behaviour will be to keep an inquisitive mind, challenge requested course of action when better approach can be proposed and very clearly voice risk and concern when necessary.

Extended Competencies / Continuous Improvement:

Promote team culture to seek understanding of the drivers influencing the wider system solution and how flow assurance and process interacts with other parts of such system. Seek means/tools to enhance the team's ability to focus on the more adding value activities. Promote a solution finding culture in the team. Identify and take forward internal initiatives to enhance team performance or possible solution offering.

Relationship Building:

Establish strong relationship with the different product lines / COE disciplines, with the view to facilitate together the above objectives, find opportunities for individual developments but also communicate on methodologies / technology development priorities for PDM or NPD budgets in the product lines. Establish strong relationships within the wider industry with the view to strengthen personal and company reputation locally.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Degree qualified, ideally BEng or Meng with a good track record of engineering delivery.
  • Ideally have achieved chartered engineer status.
  • Experience in upstream oil and gas projects
  • Preferably prior experience in field development / conceptual / front end subsea engineering.
  • Used to working in a multi-disciplinary environment, including working closely with process, pipeline and subsea engineers.
  • Good spoken and written English with experience in compiling technical reports
  • Good listener, at ease in front of clients, with good presentation skills
  • Problem solving experience to be highlighted
  • Preferred experience in multi-stake holder interaction

REQUIRED INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • Ability to understand the wide-ranging implications between a range of technical challenges.
  • Problem-solving skills. Ability to lead brain-storming exercise and consolidate findings in a logical roadmap.
  • Understanding of reservoir engineering and chemical philosophy/strategies
  • Knowledge of topside processing and technologies
  • Appreciation for field development drivers and high-level economics
  • Knowledge of flow assurance and fluid analysis applications such as OLGA, PIPESIM, PIPEFLO, PVTsim and HYSYS etc.

REQUIRED MANAGERIAL SKILLS

  • Technical management skills
  • Ability to coordinate multi-skilled exercises
  • Ability to prepare and present a comprehensive business case

We are a fast growing provider of innovative R&D and engineering solutions in the energy industry through our coating removal machine and subsea chopsaws with a current focus on the decommissioning market. This role would be focused on our subsea cutting tools offering. Our business is focused on providing faster, more efficient and more environmentally friendly engineering solutions to the market. We operate globally with a current team of 16 personnel primarily based out of Belfast and Aberdeen.

We are currently looking to hire an Engineer to join the team on a full time, permanent basis with an initial focus on the building, maintenance and deployment of our subsea cutting saws - the C1 chopsaw range.

The role will be based in Aberdeen and will vary significantly week to week however the core focus for the successful candidate will be the management of the engineering needs of our current saw fleet and of the subcontractors involved in the design and build to DNV standards of our new saw builds. The role will also focus on the engineering specifications and needs of integrated parts of our offering such as HPUs, reelers, hot stabs, transport skids and more as required by ongoing client demands.

The role will also be expected to be able to support with physical saw build and maintenance as well as occasional offshore operational work and client demos when demand requires although these workscopes will be primarily performed by our engineering technicians. You must be someone who has demonstrated their interface skills with ability to work with contractors and internal and client needs.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the functional design specification and technical specification for our products
  • Manage the project saw build schedules with subcontractors including design output, manufacture targets, DNV certifications, QA and other key elements with respect to the technical, timeframe and commercial considerations
  • Check design verification (FEA, hand calculations) in support of key products and provide details of the validation testing and inspection requirements of designs
  • Highlight and resolve any design issues following verification calculations and analysis with help of lead engineer and subcontractors as required
  • Implement improvements to manufacturing process
  • Coordinate R&D / Development projects into production
  • Support factory and site acceptance testing and commissioning activities as required
  • Research and design additional tool integrations as required, for example camera integration, hot stabs integration and high speed motor capabilities
  • Check engineering output produced by other team members and provide support to Lead Engineer and team members as required
  • Management of change on designs, documents and drawings in accordance with company procedures
  • Conduct and document design and manufacture review meetings and closeout actions
  • Input to design processes and contribute towards new or improved processes as necessary
  • Direct and mentor less experienced personnel as required during project or product design activities
  • Provide support to field operation and site integration tests for the new product/project as required
  • Raise purchase orders as required
  • Work with the financial controller to forecast and update core and auxiliary product budgets

Mandatory Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a mechanical/hydraulic/structural tooling design environment. ROV/subsea tooling experience preferred
  • Mechanical (or similar) Engineering degree
  • Familiar with the principles of design control and PDM or other data management systems
  • Familiar with standards and specifications relevant across the energy industry
  • Commercial awareness
  • Project controls skills (reporting, planning etc.) and competence in supporting the development of cost and schedule estimates.
  • Effective communicator both verbally and written.
  • Able to work independently and within integrated local and virtual teams
  • Good computer literacy with particular competence in MS office software.
  • Full command of the English language written and spoken.
  • Flexibility for ad-hoc travel both within UK and abroad.

Preferred Requirements

  • Ability to use Solidworks and 2D CAD, to create detailed models & drawings in support of projects and products
  • Chartership through a recognised professional institute preferred
  • Use of Mathcad and SolidWorks FEA to perform design verification using first principles
  • Experience working with ISO 9001 Standards and DNV standards
  • Previous experience of working as part of a multi-discipline team on decommissioning or energy related projects
  • Knowledge of decommissioning legislation, engineering techniques, solutions and challenges

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support FEED & Concept Studies for asset development activities, including, conversions, upgrade projects and major marine newbuilds for One Fleet.
  • Provide Naval Architecture and Marine systems knowledge and capability
  • Ensure that the marine assets remain at the forefront of technology innovation, operational and environmental efficiency
  • Determination of budget and schedule for asset modifications
  • Definition and management of 3rdparty related SOW related to vessel and marine systems.
  • Vetting of 3rdparty assets and potential conversion opportunities as input to wider fleet strategy decision making.

Your Qualifications and Skills:

  • Essential:
    Degree qualifications in naval architecture and / or marine engineering with small craft design, ocean engineering, marine engineering / naval architecture, or offshore engineering.
    Preferred:
  • Registration with UK Engineering Council, and membership of a licensed professional engineering institution.
  • Extensive NA experience covering
  • Vessel and general structural design Stability
  • Vessel motions and hydrodynamics
  • Able to perform Vessel stability and loading checks related to Topsides equipment additions, removals, modifications, and upgrades, (Lay towers, winches, product storage systems, cranes), determining lightship impact.
  • Able to perform design/review of vessel interfaces, hull structures, determining impact of and modifications required and related to:
  • Integration of / upgrade to: pipelay equipment including tower systems, winches, permanent and portable
  • Product storage systems, Baskets and reels
  • Crane upgrades
  • Roll reduction and anti-heeling systems
  • Sea fastenings and deck reinforcement
  • Basic knowledge of pipelay systems, equipment and methods, reel lay, flexlay and vessel integration
  • Providence of guidance on applicable Class rules, regulations and standards
  • Ability to perform asset screening review and reporting for potential assets
  • Ability to write specifications, define SOW, liaise with equipment providers, shipyards to formalise and develop basic costings / develop schedule inputs
