Financial Modeller and Energy Market Analyst

Location: London (Hybrid and remote working available)

Permanent Staff Position

The Financial Modeller/Energy Market Analyst will support the UK Development Director and team in managing the development of renewables projects across the UK (initial focus is on stand alone utility scale battery storage and substations, and large scale co-located solar and battery with onshore wind, tidal, hydrogen and demand side projects within the next 24 months) and will be directly responsible for all the financial modelling of the projects, keeping the models up to date, ensuring all model assumptions are as accurate as possible, modelling scenarios for changes to specific assumptions, deriving the financial viability of projects from initial project appraisal all the way through to Ready to Build (RTB), Commercial Operations Date (COD) and long-term operations of the project.

Responsibility for the bankable financial model for specific projects at point of sale (anticipated to be at RTB or COD) and contributing to the due diligence process for these transactions. Monthly reporting to the Board on the financial position of our projects, informing the Board of forecasted changes to project financials from a modelling assumption perspective, updating the Board on changes in the UK energy market and advising on the likely energy market future outlook as a result of in depth market analysis, including identification of future market opportunities. Development of market analysis and project performance evaluations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Project Financial Modelling

  • Prepare, manage and keep updated individual project financial models
  • Manage internal decisional tools (decision tracking) relating to financial model assumptions
  • Set up, manage and track project financial model output reporting tools and assumption change forecasts
  • Support the identification of suitable external consultants. Oversee and manage their work and ensure compliance with the respective financial model related engagement contracts
  • Support with project feasibility assessment from a financial viability perspective
  • Undertake early stage assessment of prospective projects to identify and appraise financial risk, issues and opportunities
  • Set up and manage financial models for new business opportunities
  • Lead on financial model input validation
  • Implement and maintain stakeholder relationships to ensure accurate and continuous up to date financial model assumption inputs
  • Liaise with the project development and grid teams to keep updated the project development cashflow, project milestone timeline and grid cost inputs for the project financial models

Management & Control

  • Manage the process of quarterly financial model updating across all projects
  • Generate the periodic management reporting including key development issues and development risks alongside possible risk mitigation
  • Generate the monthly financial model consolidated portfolio update reports using the financial model outputs

UK Energy Market Analysis:

  • Monitor current UK energy market legislative and policy issues (nationally and internationally where there are impacts to the UK) that may affect the company's project development activities, communicating this with the Development Director
  • Appraise and monitor UK energy market fundamentals, providing monthly analysis on market impactors and forecasting project financial impacts
  • Identify potential UK energy market opportunities

Essential skills and Experience:

  • Fluent in English
  • Renewable energy project experience
  • Able to create and manage detailed project financial models, assumption management and scenario modelling
  • Proactive and able to adapt well as required
  • Able to manage multiple projects alongside one another
  • Understanding of the UK renewables energy market
  • Able to work collaboratively across a team
  • Excellent report writing, communication and project management skills
  • A flexible attitude to work
