Commercial Project Manager
One of the leading global industrial gas owner/operator companies is looking for a Commercial Project Manager to join them in their Surrey offices.
The Equipment Sale & Plant Support ("ESPS") business area is responsible for the global sale of equipment and after-sales services to third party customers as well as the company's joint ventures.
Their goal is to have a "focused and selective" Equipment Sales and After Sales Services business that proactively supports the company's competitiveness and growth. Specifically, this business provides a broad range of cryogenic and non-cryogenic new plant offerings and after sales services to the industrial gases sector, including engineering, maintenance, spare parts management, plant audits and efficiency modifications, construction advisory services and plant commissioning services.
The incumbent will work with various members of the business support and engineering teams, including Business Development, Business Decision Support, Accounting, Legal, Project Development, Engineering, and Operations.
Reporting to the Project Execution Manager ESPS EMEA, the Commercial Project Manager will assist the Business Development Managers with scope development and cost estimate preparation, project proposal preparation, project execution, and O&M project management.
The ability to build effective working relationships with the local engineering teams will be essential to success in this role.

As our Commercial Project Manager, you will:

  1. Commercial / Proposal Development
  • Lead scope generation for the proposal with interaction with the Business Development Managers
  • Participate in customer engagement meetings
  • Prepare estimates for the proposal, working with the engineering teams and other groups
  • In conjunction with the Business Development Manager prepare proposals for the customers
  • Ensure that project scope changes are raised and managed
  • Ensure issuance of invoices on time, track and chase payment with the assistance of Accounts Receivables and Project Accounting.

  1. Project Execution
  • Conduct project execution activities including cost management, schedule, budget, safety performance aspects and compliance with applicable legislation
  • Be customers' privileged point of contact for projects once in execution
  • Setup and execute projects in SAP including cost tracking and reporting
  • Manage Service Orders and Sales Orders

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience including ideally 5 years of procurement or project management experience.
  • Understanding of sales, finance, etc.
  • Proven commercial/contract management experience.
  • Strong communications skills.

We are currently supporting our energy sector EPC client in recruiting a Senior Planning Engineer to join their team in Surrey on a staff basis. In this role you will be responsible for providing a complete planning Engineering service to both project and corporate management for Proposals and Projects either as part of a large project team or covering all planning and scheduling aspects on smaller projects.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Project Controls Manager.
  • Manages and leads all activities related to project planning and accountable for managing the overall Master Control Schedule, collation and reporting of progress against this Control Schedule.
  • Setup and manage the project Master Control Schedule and facilitate the operation of the project planning and progress measurement systems.
  • Ensures planning and progress measurement procedures for contractors and vendors conform to Project requirements and are effectively applied.
  • Ensures that the detailed planning of the various phases of the work is in accordance with the project strategy and milestones to achieve the overall project plan.
  • Calculate and report project schedule performance metrics and generate S-Curves and other tables and charts as required.
  • Responsibilities typically include:
  • Project controls: reporting, forecasting and cost control.
  • Look ahead reports of tasks to be performed in the 3 - 6 weeks
  • Identification of Risks in schedules and mitigation actions
  • Identification of Opportunities in the schedule.
  • Responsible for timely issue of project control deliverables and progress reports.
  • Provide relevant reports to project management to ensure the Project Manager has all the tools required to make the right decisions driving on time and on budget project execution.
  • Interact with the customer to provide update on schedule as well as explain the current situation / challenges / opportunities.
  • Implementation of the integrated project planning initiative: the planner will adhere to the approved processes and proactively drive implementation of new initiatives leading to fully integrated planning.
  • Provide leadership to planning engineers, schedulers and cost engineers to plan, monitor, and control the execution of the project within the time and budget parameters, optimising resource utilisation.
  • Support the Project Controls Manager and Project Management Team in planning and identifying issues that could limit progress or impact project budgets.
  • Corporate reporting line is to the Project Controls and Business Director.
  • Support project management team in initiating and preparing time and cost related variations and claims.
  • Monitor progress against schedules and expedite updating data required from the discipline groups.
  • Prepare and maintain client and management progress curves and look ahead reports for the project in line with the required reporting levels and requirements of the contract.
  • Evaluate discipline change notices, determine schedule impact of all affected areas.
  • Support the materials control group in developing and maintaining a requisition tracking system.
  • Ensure timely project reporting to an appropriate level of detail which gives early warning of adverse performance trends.
  • Perform related duties as and when instructed by direct supervisor.



Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

  • Recent FEED, EPC / EPCm experience in the oil & gas sector in a similar role.
  • Recent experience of leading planning delivery on greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Capable of performing duties with no direct supervision and within agreed schedules and budgets.
  • Understands the project deliverables, milestones and required tasks and targets through the project progress measurement system.
  • Capable of using initiative, knowledge and experience to recognise, highlight and address opportunities and threats as and when they emerge.

Construction Field Engineer

Petroplan are seeking a Construction Field Engineer to join a major client of ours in a staff position. The client is a major player in carbon capture and hydrogen projects, designing, building, operating and maintaining their own assets.

As such they are seeking a Construction Field Engineer with extensive onshore construction experience within the UK and with knowledge of UK CDM regulations to take responsibility for the build of a brand new facility in the North of England.

Location: Surrey (with an eventual move to site for construction works)

Core Competencies/Requirements:

Office based:

  • Providing construction guidance to projects throughout all project phases, utilising construction knowledge
  • Assessing and selection of construction contractors
  • Develop construction work packs (CWPs) to support project execution
  • knowledge of advanced work packaging and workforce planning processes

Site based:

  • Reporting to site construction manager
  • Prior experience in a construction field engineering role within an EPC contractor team
  • Experience with construction plans and specifications
  • Prepare, expedite and coordinate responses for TQ's /SQ's

Must have BSc in an Engineering Discipline or Diploma with extensive experience in construction of Oil & Gas projects

  • Champion the development of effective Construction Procedures, Strategies and HES plans which support the overall project goals.
  • Support the Project Execution and Business goals through planning, recruitment and management of site construction personnel, including their training and development.
  • Support the sales/proposals business group with cost and schedule estimates, and working effectively with internal engineering and support groups, customers, suppliers and contractors.
  • Drive constructability through pre-execution stages and stage gate reviews of the project.
  • Drive consistency and improvement of work processes for the Construction team.
  • Support the Project Efforts through:
  • Providing construction input to the project throughout the engineering phase.
  • Developing the project construction strategy, execution planning and contracting strategy.
  • Developing installation sequencing, schedule timings and resource requirements.
  • Preparing project specific site procedures and work practices as required.
  • Assisting with construction feasibility and method studies.
  • Supporting development of the project logistic strategy relevant to heavy and out of gauge equipment/modules.
  • Leading coordination of development of heavy lifting/installation studies including out of gauge equipment/modules.
  • Owning input to the Constructability of a plant, including use of the constructability checklist to identify critical execution issues.

Your profile:

  • Preferably degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline and/or significant experience in EPC/EPCM construction management throughout project lifecycle.
  • Demonstrable experience as a Construction Manager - at least 10 years of experience.
  • Construction management background in the Oil & Gas or Petrochemicals processing industries is preferred. Cryogenics and/or Air Separation experience will be beneficial but not essential.
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels both within and outside of the organisation and across different cultures. Good presentation and report writing skills.
  • Proven abilities in leadership, engaging, developing, and motivating teams.
  • Effectiveness in prioritising and managing a heavy and diverse workload.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation, codes and standards with the ability to manage contractors.
  • Computer literate (MS Office components).
  • Use of and familiarity with process and safety tools such as P&ID's and HAZOPs.
  • Understanding of typical design datasheet/drawings and familiar with General design/construction standards in Mechanical /E&I field
  • Proven Construction Safety experience and knowledge.
  • Change Management processes and implementation.
  • Project costing skills for evaluation and managing constructability.
  • Project planning skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels both within and outside of the organisation.
