We are currently supporting our EPC client in their search for a Group Manager for the Cost Estimation department, to join them on a permanent basis in their Surrey offices. This is a senior management level position that reports directly into the Engineering Director and Managing Director.

The UK Engineering group will support a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in Low Carbon/ Energy Transition (CCUS, Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Offshore Wind, Waste to X, Emissions Reduction) as well as responsibly developing traditional international energy projects.

This is a staff position with hybrid office arrangements available. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK on a full time and indefinite basis.

Your responsibilities:

  • Corporately manages their respective department
  • Recruits and develops staff personnel and also recruits Contractors to deliver across a portfolio of Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed Design projects
  • Hands on managing estimates and chargeable across projects
  • Takes leadership in client engagement and key meetings in relation to planning and discussing Estimates
  • Develops tools and systems to support excellent delivery of estimates
  • Interfaces with other parts of the business for data and benchmarking
  • The Cost Estimating Group Manager is accountable to the Engineering Director and the Managing Director who is typically sponsor on key projects.


Primary Duties:

  • Allocate appropriate manpower for the preparation of proposals/ concept studies, FEED and detailed engineering on projects. Maximise billable hours
  • Continuously evaluate manpower and competency requirements; ensure RESOURCING TOOL is kept up to date; develop manpower plans, charts and schedules. Recommend, assign and allocate manpower for the execution of estimating activities within the budgeted project man-hours.
  • Decide recruitment requirements in support of department activities; participate in screening of applicants, interviewing, selection and hiring of candidates in accordance with company procedures and approval processes
  • Direct the activities of department performance evaluations. Establish clear work standards and ensure performance objectives are met. Evaluate and make recommendation for promotions, salary increases, transfers, and terminations
  • Determine training and development requirements within the department; confer with supervisory level personnel in the identification of skill gaps and training needs. Mentor and motivate department staff
  • Assess, identify and develop technical tools, conduct presentations and seminars to update and improve the quality of work
  • Consult with quality assurance on any issues relating to compliance with the business' QMS, project quality plan and design integrity processes and procedures. Coordinate internal and client audit requests. Comply with the company's accredited frameworks such as ISO 14001
  • Hold regular departmental meetings and maintain corporate communication with department members
  • Participate in preparation of proposals including execution statements, man-hour cost estimates and client clarifications


Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

  • Honours degree/ Diploma in engineering.
  • Significant related Cost Estimating experience in Concept, FEED and Detailed Design CAPEX and OPEX estimates working for engineering/client organisations in the oil and gas industry, utilities and/ or Low Carbon Energy Transition industry
  • Previous experience in a management position

Reporting and Project Controls Specialist

Role and Responsibilities
Working within the Project Controls department and under supervision, the successful candidate will have some knowledge of basic cost principles and will perform routine and less complex aspects of cost assignments within a project environment. You may be exposed to broader aspects of cost and estimating as required, and with support may assist in the preparation of larger and more complex assignments.

Specific Duties
* Collection and collation of project orientated cost data for input into the various dashboards and reports
* Production of reporting dashboards using Power BI and other software
* Input to Project Control cost reports to support the project deliverables in a timely fashion
* Produce key deliverables following the defined KBR corporate Project Control workflow and work as part of a project team to examine and critique the quality of the source data and the resultant output

Person Specification

Whilst candidates for this position need not have any knowledge or experience of working within Project Cost Control in a project environment, it is imperative that you are able to demonstrate the following competencies:

* Carry out simple tasks unsupervised and also work as part of a broad-based team.
* Good organizational and prioritization skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Resource management reporting across all offices
* Ability to work independently using your own initiative and within a team environment
* Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Power BI
* Develop, maintain and present dashboards on weekly basis
* Some experience of preparing and delivering presentations containing computerized data and output, preferably from a technical or engineering environment.
* Numeracy

Senior CAD Designer (Mechanical)

Permeant Staff Position

As our Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordination of workload to meet schedule, quality, and budget requirements together with timely reporting on status and progress for themselves and for members of their team who may be in the UK or overseas.
  • Acting as lead designer on major projects or several small projects. Responsible for the work of less experienced designers working on their project.
  • Collaborating closely with other engineering functions and coordinating multi-functional reviews of designs.
  • Liaising with other design sections and process to agree interface details on manufacturing drawings. Take the initiative in resolving interface problems.
  • Liaising with manufacturing & vessel engineers to agree design details and manufacturing methods etc.
  • Controlling the design work hours incurred on projects that are their responsibility, anticipate workforce requirements and highlight scope and design
  • Reviewing manufacturing drawings using established check lists where available and supervise drawing reviews carried out by less experienced designers.

Your profile:

  • HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in the use of Bentley MicroStation would be an advantage, however, other CAD experience will be considered.
  • Must be aware pressure vessel and regional design codes (ASME, PED, CE Marking, UKCA)
  • Experience with equipment in cryogenic service is desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience producing equipment setting plans, general arrangement drawings and detailed fabrication drawings.
  • Working understanding and use of business management systems and the document lifecycle typical of an engineering organisation.
  • A demonstrable understanding of cross-functional interfaces and overcoming the associated challenges in an engineering/design environment for process facilities.
  • Experience leading or supervising other designers both in the UK and overseas.
  • Well-organised and enthusiastic with a sound mechanical engineering background.
  • Highly competent written and spoken communication and able to use a range of standard software such as MS Word and MS Excel.

Joining the team, you would be using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis on projects to solve problems for our clients in a consultancy setting. The Fluid Mechanics team provides technical engineering consultancy to the energy industry for problems related to fluid flows and heat transfer.
