Continuous Improvement Leader

General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Continuous Improvement Leader reports to the General Manager, with matrix reporting to the corporate Director of Lean/Continuous Improvement. This role will function as a dynamic change agent to aggressively lead, or direct business improvement projects using lean and/or six sigma tools. The Continuous Improvement Leader will provide guidance and training, and will facilitate projects to achieve sustained improvements to critical manufacturing and transactional processes. The Continuous Improvement Leader will ensure projects are aligned with regional and corporate strategic goals and will manage projects to ensure completion to schedule. This role of the Continuous Improvement Leader is a key individual contributor.


  • Manage projects and prioritize targeted areas of opportunity across the corporation for eliminating waste and reducing variation
  • Facilitate value stream mapping, kaizens, continuous improvement, lean thinking, cycle time reduction events, set-up reduction, TPM, 5S
  • Provide training, leadership and support for kaizen events across all levels of the organization
  • Maintain and keep current detailed project plans
  • Motivate and direct cross-functional teams to achieve desired results through skillful application of the Lean methodologies
  • Apply lean manufacturing and six sigma concepts in manufacturing and transactional process settings
  • Mentor and coach employees in lean and six sigma initiatives
  • Establish appropriate metrics and controls to facilitate easy maintenance and sustainment of improvements
  • Develop standard work, templates and training programs for Lean and six sigma
  • Acts as a key liaison for site regarding alignment with the corporate Goal Deployment Process Collaborates with leadership in the selection, prioritization and deployment of Lean Six Sigma projects and kaizen events
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, develops a project plan for implementing improvements, and monitors the revised process to ensure it meets objectives
  • Conducts regularly scheduled project reviews to ensure the achievement of expected results.
  • Measures and monitors quality, cost reduction, and schedule metrics
  • Coordinates, collects, and reports project results for the organization
  • Conducts advanced data collection and analysis for lean and six sigma projects


Minimum Required: Academic/Education Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering, science, business, or related field and 5 years' experience implementing Lean tools to achieve process improvement
  • Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt certification, or demonstrated equivalent experience

Contractual Requirements if any

  • Must be able to travel 10% of time

Other Certifications / Affiliations

  • Knowledge and experience with tools such as value stream mapping, kaizens, continuous improvement, lean thinking, lead time reduction, 5S, Setup Reduction, TPM


  • Demonstrated change management expertise and ability to influence and gain commitment at all organizational levels and positively transform the organizational culture to adapt to improved processes and performance metrics
  • Strong analytical skills used to keep projects on track, overcome barriers, and deliver results
  • Comfortable working in both manufacturing and office environments
  • Experience leading groups and influencing at all levels of the organization
  • Experience with multiple disciplines such as manufacturing, engineering, or quality


  • Talented facilitator with experience leading a variety of teams and the ability to build positive working relationships within the organization
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, leadership, and strong mentoring skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary
  • Demonstrated project management, organization, and planning skills
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite programs
