Mechanical Design Drafter

My client is a Houston area based manufacturer of sheet metal containment systems that are utilized in a variety of industries and applications. Such applications include housing, decontamination, storage, workshops, medical facilities, meeting spaces, restrooms, and many more. They have large contracts with Oil & Gas organizations, as well as the US Military. Due to recent demands they are expanding their operations to suit the needs. Essential job functions:

  • Assists with parts and system fabrication and assembly in the floor shop.
  • Prepares clear, complete and accurate shop assembly drawings and detail parts drawings from 3D models or sketches.
  • Ability to create electric schematics and diagrams and shop assembly written or verbal instructions.
  • Creates engineering drawings using computer-aided design (Pro-E)
  • Assists designers and engineers in taking field measurements and making sketches to assist in answering design, fabrication, or installation questions.
  • May be called upon to increase design throughput by providing design related activities under direct supervision of a designer or engineer.
  • Checks detail drawings to assure compliance with engineering codes and drafting standards.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Highly competent with PC software such as MS Office.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical drafting standards and best practices.
  • Highly developed skills with Pro-E 3D modeling software.
  • Intermediate skills with 2-D AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated understanding of sheet metal design and manufacturing processes such as: sheet metal design tolerances, shop fabrication tolerances and CAD welding notes.
  • Ability to read calipers, tape measure, and other measurement tools as required to complete tasks.
  • AS degree in Computer Aided Design or equivalent, or, relevant combination of education and experience.
