Well Planning Geologist


Key Accountabilities


Well Planning:

  • Support well planning activities and construction of relevant NWD documents consistent with Company's Wells Common Process and in compliance with standards for Safety and Operational Risks
  • Liaise with Renewal/Depletion Geoscientists to ensure the well planning activities and documents continue to meet the target objectives and desired outcomes articulated for the well
  • Support the construction of key documents, meeting participation and decisions (WCD (Well Concept Document), NDS (No Drilling Surprises) meeting, select the well option, and assist the Operations Geologist with the creation of operational decision trees, and finalization of the data acquisition program)
  • Assist in the creation of pre-drill risk registers and ensure mitigation and contingency plans are created for all geological risks
  • Support the construction of the SOR document ensuring the well objectives, data acquisition, and all relevant overburden characterization elements are contained
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing of well-site geologists both onshore/offshore through active engagement with suppliers
  • Ensure integration of well planning and operational activity through strong collaboration with key stakeholders, NWD and Wells leadership
  • Assist in the construction of the GOP ensuring all relevant information is contained in this document



Geological Operations:

  • Participate in daily NWD/subsurface operations meeting
  • Participate as required and contribute relevant interpretations NWD/subsurface at the morning Wells rig call
  • Participate in subsurface hole section previews hole section reviews for the well
  • Participate in LWOP, CWOP exercises,
  • Provide support to the Operations Geologist: daily and as needed ops call, provide up to date information and offset date
  • Help interpret and select formation tops, casing, and core points per SOR and appropriate decision trees.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of the data acquisition program and data quality per agreed terms and the security of all sensitive subsurface data and well results



Post Well:

  • Support successful EOW Report completion ensuring the report meets the expectations of the New Wells Common Process
  • Ensure all data is finalised and electronically captures in the corporate regional data store and hard data copy is distributed accordingly to stakeholders
  • Capture and document all post well key learnings in PWR and share in appropriate NWD venues.
  • Support root cause analysis for any NPT event related to subsurface operations (Orange category) and ensure these learnings are distributed through the appropriate venues and stakeholders



Experience and job requirements

  • University Degree in Geology or related subject
  • 5-10 years of relevant industry experience, most of which should have been gained in a geological well planning environment. General Knowledge of Operations Geology would be an asset but not required
  • Essential industry experience in the areas of well planning, and geological interpretation
  • Geological, seismic and petrophysical log interpretation and workstation skills are essential; Petrel and TechLog experience are highly desirable
  • Experience with deep water Gulf of Mexico exploration and development wells is highly desirable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The individual needs to have a collaborative team-first mentality, be self-motivated, with a strong ability to integrate across disciplines

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a member of the Capital Projects Group (CPG) and reports directly to the CPG Engineering Manager. The Senior Electrical Engineer is primarily accountable for Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) of Engineering Deliverables by the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor beginning with Detailed Design through Commissioning and Startup.
This role is also accountable for ensuring FLNG Capital Projects Electrical System design meets or exceeds contractual and regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The complexity of the electrical power systems in both the Liquefaction (LQF) and Pretreatment (PTF) Facilities requires a high level of experience and technical expertise to provide assurance of electrical design deliverables along with proper QA/QC of procurement, installation and construction of electrical systems.
Candidates should have an understanding of Electrical subject matter relevant to FLNG LQF and PTF facilities, such as Power System Modeling, Power System Harmonics, working and interfacing with Utilities, High Voltage (HV) Substations, HV Transmission Lines, HV Cables, HV Gas Insulated Circuit Breakers, HV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Load Commutated Inverter (LCI) Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Synchronous Motors, Harmonic Filters, Power System Protection, Power Management and Control System (PMCS), Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) Distribution Switchgear, Power, Distribution and Lighting Transformers, Essential Generators, Lighting, and DC systems.

The Senior Instrument Engineer is a member of the Capital Project Group (CPG) and reports directly to the CPG Engineering Manager. The Lead Instrument Engineer is primarily accountable for Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) of Engineering Deliverables by the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor beginning with Detailed Design through Commissioning and Startup.
This role is also accountable for ensuring the FLNG Capital Projects Instrumentation design meets or exceeds contractual and regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The complexity of the instrumented systems in both the Liquefaction (LQF) and Pretreatment (PTF) Facilities requires a high level of experience and technical expertise to provide assurance of design deliverables along with proper QA/QC of procurement, installation and construction of instrumented systems.
Candidates must have an understanding of the setup and operation of the Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS), consisting of the Distributed Control System (DCS) sometimes referred to as the Basic Process Control System (BPCS), the Safety Instrumented System (SIS), and the Fire and Gas System (FGS). Candidate must understand the ICSS process control and safety functions required for the gas treatment and liquefaction process, and their role in safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations, with the objective of meeting business goals for production while minimizing unscheduled equipment down time. The role will be required to interface closely with the Operations teams during startup and assist with troubleshooting as well as providing technical support.

Essential Functions & Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Review and comment on Specifications and Data Sheets
- Review and comment on Detailed Design Deliverables
- Review and comment on Procurement Packages
- Review and comment on Supplier Document Deliverables
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) of ICSS and other Instrumentation Systems (infrequent domestic and international travel should be expected)
- Participate in Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) of ICSS and packaged equipment
- Coordinate engineering and design interfaces between Instrumentation and other discipline teams in a strong matrix, multi-discipline project team environment.
- Review project deliverable documents for completeness and accuracy, and check and approve Instrument design drawings.
- Ensure EPC Contractor meets all regulatory requirements in a timely manner
- Review other disciplines and vendor print inter-squad drawings, and coordinate with other discipline leads to ensure effective quality product.
- Ensure Contractor compliance with project schedule for Engineering and Construction.
- Review as-built documentation process for all Instrumentation work.
- Ensure instrument design, construction, and testing is code compliant.
- Represent Owner in responses to EPC Contractor Change Orders
- Knowledgeable Subject Matter Expert on Process Control and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
- Review Process Control narratives and the revision of these with any changes to control.
- Knowledgeable on Cause and Effect (SIS interlocks).
- Participation in Hazops and Hazids as required.
- Support Alarm Management. Interface with other Discipline Engineers and Operations to resolve issues.
- Support Process Trip Investigation during startup.
- Provide input to resolution of Process Control Design Issues found post-startup
- Ensure compliance with established site and corporate philosophies, standards, specifications and procedures related to the SIS, control and instrumentation.
- Provide guidance to Smartplant Instrument (SI) use on Train 4 and interface with existing Trains 1-3 database.
- Provide input to configuration of graphical displays
- Review all package unit inquiries and purchase order requisitions where instrumentation is to be furnished by a Vendor as part of the package unit.
- Review unpriced requisitions and purchase orders of equipment and address any Technical Deviations from Project requirements.
- Participate in any Contractor Engineering Audits for the Instrument Discipline

  • Develop power system studies including load flow, voltage drop, short circuit and protective device coordination, arc flash and label creation, and transient analysis using ETAP and SKM.
  • Strong knowledge on the development of the following deliverables:
    • MV and LV power systems
    • Single line diagrams, schematics, interconnection and wiring diagram
    • Layouts - lighting and grounding, cable routing design
    • Substation and MCC design
    • Area classification per code requirements
    • HVAC, Ventilation, and Fire Alarm/control system Experience
    • Motor and electrical load lists, panel schedules
  • Develop electrical equipment requisitions, review vendor drawings, and factory acceptance test
  • Prepare Specifications and Contract Documentation.
  • Prepare electrical design and calculations in accordance with the relevant Codes / Standards and Customer preferences.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations, and practices
