Supervisor, Engineering


Job overview:

Supervises, coordinates, and directs activities of engineering staff providing solutions to complex engineering problems. Plans and conducts engineering projects and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work as part of a major project. Sets and monitors operational and financial performance goals for the department. Evaluates relative profitability of departmental functions and takes corrective action to improve operational and financial performance.


Establishes engineering policies, standards and specifications for the group. Provides technical expertise in a specific engineering discipline. Ensures compliance with the Texas Engineering Practice Act of the State of Texas.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics, biosystems engineering, mathematical science, physical science or related science plus six or more years of post-Bachelors engineering experience relating to the area of engineering specialization required to perform the job, including providing technical leadership in engineering.

    Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
    Driver's license

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • 6-10 years' technical experience in the design of transmission lines
  • Bachelor of Science or better in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structures
  • Proficient in the design of structures and foundations using PLS-series software and FAD tools
  • Experience in estimating transmission line projects
  • Proven experience in mentoring and managing engineers
  • Experienced in developing standards

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for study, design, specification and services related to electrical systems.

The Mechanical engineer will receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  • Have work reviewed to ensure sound profession judgment has been employed and participate in the review of others work to ensure the quality of that work
  • Perform mechanical engineering work including, but not limited to, requirements generation and definition, hardware conceptual/embodiment/detailed design and test, assembly/fabrication, hardware acceptance and qualification test support.
  • Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions and work with limited to minimal supervision.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Essential Job Functions Develop and troubleshoot chemical process simulations Full development of P&IDs Size and design all types of processing equipment, including absorption / distillation towers, pumps, exchangers, piping systems, control valves, relief valves, filters, etc. Document sizing / design parameters for future reference Ensure design is compliant with ASME VII, B31.3, API, and other industry standards Participate in a Hazop review and answer engineering-related questions Provide troubleshooting and technical support to operational facilities Participate in commissioning of treatment facilities Other duties as assigned.
