Senior Petroleum Engineer

Petroplan is actively recruiting for a Senior Petroleum Engineer for an oil & gas company in Qatar. The role is a permanent, residential position based in Qatar. The role will be focusing on the company's International assets.

High preference given to candidates with recent US unconventional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operation support and monitor performance of well drilling, completions and interventions for International operations.
  • Prepare requirements for well completion, develop well designs for new wells and provide technical assistance to drilling and production staff to ensure that each well is completed in a safe, efficient manner
  • Monitor production performance, diagnose any anomalies and recommend engineering solutions.
  • Perform production optimization activities to ensure reliability and optimum well performance
  • Make continuous improvement recommendations.
  • Must have strong teamwork skills, and would be an advantage to have experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, less experienced staff, field staff, and management.

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years' petroleum engineering experience
  • 5 years' experience in unconventional development activities
  • Prior experience in North American unconventional basins
  • In-depth knowledge of production engineering/technology including production optimization, well design, testing and completions analysis
  • Proficient in well performance and integrated production system modelling tools such as PETEX suite (Prosper, GAP, MBAL)
  • Proficiency in data analysis and commercial petroleum engineering software and tools
  • BSc in Petroleum/Chemical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline

Primary purpose of job

  • Design Market Intelligence Tools and Database and provide analysis and insights on global Exploration and Production industry in relation to our client's Portfolio. Prepare analytical Market Intelligence reports for Upstream, LNG, and Downstream businesses.
  • Perform industry benchmarks, and lead the operational / financial standard performance indicators for the directorate.
  • Prepare Market Intelligence reports and presentations on various upstream, downstream, or LNG assets
  • including information on asset valuation metrics, country risk, tax regimes, regulatory environment, and economic indicators.
  • Conduct industry benchmarks, peer group analyses, market competitiveness and positioning, and produce reports on key market players' strategic features, etc.
  • Build and maintain economic models for various Upstream
  • Exploration and Production assets under different fiscal regimes (Production sharing contracts, tax & royalty, Concessions etc.) to be used for benchmarking
  • Research and track policy developments affecting the fiscal and regulatory terms governing the upstream and downstream oil, gas, and LNG sectors
  • Report topical insight pieces relating to the upstream fiscal and regulatory environment* Prepare and maintain detailed country-level fiscal and regulatory reports
  • Build and maintain library of fiscal models



Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 15 years work experience in various disciplines in the Oil & Gas industry. Consideration for Business
  • Consultancy experience or experience working in a major international Oil and Gas Company with multi-disciplinary expertise ranging from technical to business and economics.
  • This must include a minimum 10 years with emphasis on Economic Modelling, Merger & Acquisition activities, and Market Intelligence.
  • Minimum 5 years in petroleum economic evaluation experience
  • Ability to design and build complex economic models for Upstream E&P, Downstream, and LNG assets or projects in a wide variety of fiscal regimes.
  • Energy and ability to work within and across teams, to facilitate effective decision-making.
  • Evidence of strong work ethic and awareness of discretion and need to observe confidentiality in all matters.
  • Excellent problem solving, financial and economic modelling skills as well as ability to work in multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills in English are required. Arabic is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel



Education

  • Bachelor degree in in Economics, Engineering or Business Administration from an internationally recognized university.
  • Preference for Postgraduate Qualification (MSc. Or MBA).

Primary Purpose of the Job


Identify and recommend corrective actions to International facilities operations to ensure governance and assurance in order to safeguard interest. Verify and raise recommendations to Department Manager (SO) for endorsement of Operational aspects of all international facilities development plans for Oil and Gas fields operated by others overseas. Review of the Annual WP&B related to surface facilities activities in order to ensure that the assets are operated with optimum cost without compromising the safety and operability. Identify Key Focus Areas for each operating asset and ensure implementation by coordination with the respective operators

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Actively monitor and oversight international assets operation to ensure compliance with Safety and Production objectives, organise regular coordination meetings with every Operators to discuss areas of concerns and assist in their resolution.
  2. Monitor brown field refurbishment projects and assess existing facility impacts for the field development plans.
  3. Provide assistance to other divisions in reviewing and providing inputs from operation perspectives.
  4. Review and verify the Annual Work Program & Budget (WP&B) submitted by the Operators and monitor activities implementation progress and expenditures to ensure compliance with submitted plan and budget.
  5. Develop and manage guideline/framework for managing non operated assets and implement it across all assets.
  6. Monitor integrity of assets and subsea pipelines.
  7. Participate in forums to exchange information among offshore operators/projects on lessons learned from existing operation and ongoing projects.( Examples : Offshore Operation Forum, Pipeline Task Force, etc.).
  8. Participate in task forces, committees and meetings with and other offshore Oil Development Ventures as and when required.
  9. Ensure through effective communication, supervision that the Division employees consistently demonstrate commitment and motivation to achieve an optimum performance and deliver an excellent quality of work.
  10. Liaise closely with the Department Manager and other Assistant Managers in the Department to ensure that the fields development and operation oversight are in line with strategic plans and procedures. Coordination includes joint preparation and providing input to several regular Business and projects internal and external reports.

Decision Making Authority


The decisions are normally derived based on technical review/ verification and follow up of international Oil and Gas operations/ constant oversight of facilities. The technical recommendations made by the job holder can have serious investment risks and large financial implications. Under the guidance of SO Manager, the Job holder undertakes operation oversight responsibility for the international oil and gas surface facilities with the objective to safeguard interest by improving operation performance and ensuring financial savings to and Qatar.

Context / Special Features / Challenges


Offshore Oil and Gas operation is extremely expensive and critical to assure feedstock continuity to the processing / treatment plants. The main challenge is to have adequate resources and expertise within SOdivision to have effective involvements and input to the offshore operation improvements to sustain production plateau from the fields. This involves substantial annual budget commitments towards operating expenses (total OPEX in excess of couple of billions US$ every year). SO Division's constant efforts can only ensure that offshore Operators are taking necessary precautions at right time to protect the integrity of offshore structures/ pipelines/ critical assets and have adequate plan to maintain them in good conditions even beyond their design life.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Experience


B.Sc in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or higher Degree. Good English written and verbal communication skills. Minimum 15 years' experience in the Oil/Gas Industry with minimum 10 years' experience in offshore engineering and projects execution with good operational background.

SENIOR RELIABILITY ENGINEER

We are working with a leading oil and gas client who are looking for a senior reliability engineer to work in a new position in Qatar.

The reliability engineer;

  • Ensures high level of plant equipment reliability by carrying our regular study of problems/difficulties and failures of the systems/equipment and produces recommendations for improvement to prevent such problems.
  • Carries out analysis to determine reliability of components, equipment and systems.
  • Collects data and analyses the data.
  • Prepares reports to define reliability problems and recommends improvements.
  • Conducts an analysis of equipment reliability problems and investigates to determine the reliability required for particular situation considering the cost limitations, equipment up/down time, repair/ replacement costs, weight, size and availability of materials/equipment



Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 12-15 years' experience, in designing, sizing, erection , installation commissioning and maintenance of plant equipment in oil/petrochemical industries out of which at least four (4) years' experience infield of design and maintenance.
  • Appropriate computer literary and knowledge of using computer features to soVe/suppoit different technical and reliability problems.
  • Fully conversant with failure analysis and failure mode (FMEA) and equipment criticality analysis (ECA)
  • Experience in selection of equipment and maintenance strategy.



Education
B.Sc. in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an internationally recognized university/institution.
