Replacement Technician - Catalyst

Petroplan is in search for a Replacement Technician (Catalyst) in Medicine Hat, AB.

This will be a 3 month turnaround contract.

Purpose:

To provide support to the Process Team and Turnaround Team to effectively and efficiently execute the Catalyst work and all associated scope during the 2020 Medicine Hat Turnaround in accordance with the Turnaround objectives and standards.

  • Provide support to the Process Team and Turnaround (TAR) Catalyst Team, as required.
  • Monitor and track catalyst unloading and loading activities including the replacement of the reformer catalyst, hydrodesulfurization catalyst, and methanol synthesis catalyst.
  • Supervise all assigned personnel including Employees, Contractors and Vendors, ensuring that resources are always adequate to complete the established scope of work.
  • Review job packages, spare parts, equipment and materials for quantity and quality and provide feedback to Planning, Process and TAR Team.
  • Review all procedures applicable to catalyst offloading and loading.
  • Review all RC and permitting requirements and ensure that they are in accordance with procedures and standards.
  • Liaise with the Site Services Coordinator to ensure that equipment and site services are available when and where required.
  • Understand schedule and timelines for assigned work orders and direct who does what when, in order to comply with the schedule. Provide status updates to the Planning/Scheduling Team each shift for catalyst activities.
  • Ensure timesheets are completed accurately for the proper allocation of charges per Work Order and turned in each shift by sub-contractors
  • Assist as needed with various other turnaround activities.
  • Recommend minor changes to catalyst unloading and loading procedure to effectively and efficiently execute the Catalyst Works.
  • Employee and contractor compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable standards.
  • Effectively communicate current activities and policies.
  • Ensure implementation of and compliance with all HR policies and procedures, including performance optimisation.

Requirements:

  • Mechanical Technician
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience at an industrial plant site
  • Proven experience in catalyst replacement projects
  • Experience with permitting and safe work practices

Mechanical Coordinator

Petroplan is in search for a Mechanical Coordinator in Medicine Hat, AB.

This is a 3 month contract.

Purpose

Mechanical Construction Coordinators are responsible for the construction planning of the respective mechanical scope by working with the mechanical contractor as well as oversight, coordination of the mechanical contractor during the day shift of the Turnaround. This includes ensuring that Responsible Care is front and centre and that all applicable standards are met in order to meet the objectives of the turnaround both from a preparation, planning and execution perspective.

Duties

  • Ensure Contractors are supplied with materials, equipment and welfare facilities (as applicable by contract) in a timely fashion to ensure compliance with schedule
  • Ensure that all work is carried out with the correct permit(s) with proper Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) documents being issued to cover the work scope
  • Supervise the execution of all fieldwork to agreed standards of workmanship in a safe, effective manner according to the schedule and within cost and time restraints
  • Make regular inspections of the workplace to check work methods and housekeeping, taking whatever corrective action is necessary to ensure compliance, at all times, to established standards
  • Ensure that the correct tools, equipment and material are on hand for the efficient use of manpower
  • Ensure timesheets (ELEMS) are completed accurately for the proper allocation of charges per Work Order and turned in each shift by all contractors
  • Provide status updates to the Planning/Scheduling group each shift for all field activities for their assigned work orders
  • Assist planning in the proper recording of historical man-hour data and all field variations
  • Keep formal logs of all problems encountered and report status to the Construction Manager to ensure continuous quality improvement
  • Ensure all Foremen have reviewed and understand their role & responsibilities and have a succession plan in place
  • Collaborates with maintenance and operations teams to continually improve the business, including safety, and other joint objectives
  • Ensure tasks in the field are completed as per the project budget
  • Notify project leads, Construction Manager, and TAR Reformer Lead of potential cost overages or budget implications as a result of additional or found work
  • Ensure the Health and Safety of all employees and ensure all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner
  • Timely reporting and thorough investigating of all injuries (including first-aids), accidents and incidents for causation and ensure lessons learned are communicated to all team members and contractors
  • Strive to develop innovative ways to achieve zero harm during the TAR planning and execution for all team members

Requirements

  • 10 years of related industry experience with a valid Journeyperson Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson (Mechanical Trade Background is strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Demonstrated proficiency with project planning and scheduling programs i.e. Primavera P6 including manpower and resource leveling
  • WHMIS Training
  • Confined Space Entry / Monitor Training, Standard First Aid and Fall Protection
  • 10 years of experience as a Construction Planner & Coordinator leading contractors in industrial construction and maintenance projects greater than 20 million dollars in a turnaround environment
  • 5 years of experience with Project Coordination or Management including field level management experience
  • Significant Turnaround experience through all phases (Strategy, Planning, Execution, and Close-out)
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documentation including but not limited to structural, piping isometrics, P&IDs and specification sheets
  • Understanding of cost management processes, PMP earned value metrics, planning and scheduling
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment and move objects up to 50 pounds

SIS Commissioning Coordinator

Petroplan is in search for a Safety Instrumented System (SIS) Commissioning Coordinator in Medicine Hat, AB.

This is a 3 month contract.

Purpose:

To assist with commissioning activities associated with the Medicine Hat Safety Instrumented System (SIS) upgrade project. This will include working as in integral member of the site's Instrumentation and Electrical Engineering team during logic verification, loop checking, system troubleshooting and final Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) validation prior to plant restart.

Duties:

  • Supervises field commissioning activities related to the SIS upgrade project.
  • Ensures that all assigned project activities are managed such that safety, quality, schedule and costs targets are achieved.
  • Ensures that all assigned project activities are executed in accordance with Project Standards.
  • Provide required level of technical support to site contractors in the areas of logic checking, and loop checking.
  • Coordinate commissioning efforts with 3rd party service providers on the control/safety system.
  • Perform testing of assigned control system logic/graphics.
  • Review / Red-Line new logic within the SIS for safety shutdown.
  • Assist in updating documentation pertaining to the SIS design (CEM, SIF List and Control Narrative).
  • Support the hardware and software installation pertaining to cybersecurity.
  • Troubleshoot any logic pertaining to plant start-up.
  • Perform control loop tuning, as required.
  • Act as a site consultee and offer advice on safety instrumented system hardware and software configuration.
  • Supervise outsourced engineering firms and contractors on site for project work.
  • Assist as needed with various other turnaround activities

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in industrial controls engineering, or electrical engineering
  • Five years' experience in controls technology
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Triconex system
  • Proficient in working with the DeltaV system
  • Knowledgeable in networking within the other technology (OT) domain
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications

This is a 3 month contract.


Purpose:

Under the direction of the Lead Inspector, the primary responsibility of the QA/QC Inspector is determining and coordinating non-destructive testing activities, performing inspections of piping and monitoring the fabrication processes thereof to achieve the desired result of a safe and reliable petrochemical operation in full compliance with construction codes and provincial statutory regulations.

Duties:

  • Ensures Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) are developed for all piping fabrication jobs and hold points are identified.
  • Completes inspections during fabrication as the "Owners Inspector" per the requirements of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B31.1 and B31.3.
  • Ensures all maintenance and capital projects are fabricated, installed and tested in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Integrity Manual.
  • Monitors repairs and alterations to equipment to ensure compliance to code and company standards.
  • Supports implementation of the Pressure Equipment Integrity Manual.
  • Takes part in project acceptance procedures.
  • Inspection and non-destructive testing as performed in accordance with appropriate codes and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Provides input and helps maintain site specifications regarding fabrication, assembly, inspection and testing.
  • Interpretation of codes, standards and jurisdictional regulations.
  • Makes recommendations for repairs and assist in the development of repair procedures.

Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 - 10 years' experience in fabrication, inspection and maintenance, of which 2 years must be inspection-based in an operating plant.
  • Certification in Canadian Standards Association (CSA 178.2) Welding inspection with an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B31.3 Piping endorsement or AWS Equivalent.
  • Must have a related trade certification or a college technology diploma in materials, welding, or a mechanical discipline.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Additional construction code endorsement for pipelines, structural steel, and welding would be an asset.
  • Certification in API (American Petroleum Institute) 510 Pressure Vessel Inspection, and/or API 570
  • Piping Inspection would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Safety Codes Act and Regulations (or equivalent knowledge from another jurisdiction), ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel, and Piping Codes and standards, American Petroleum Institute Standards, CSA Standards, and CGSB Standards.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in Quality Control Inspection of piping and fabrication
  • Issuing Quality Plans and determining quality control requirements as per codes and client piping specifications is considered an asset.
  • Experience witnessing hydrostatic testing of pressure components.
  • Experience witnessing the examination and testing welders as per ASME Section IX.
  • Experience maintaining Quality Control files and documentation.
  • Experience entering inspection data and QC requirements on spread sheets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Extensive knowledge with Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Maximo, SAP, MPAC.

Responsibilities/Job Description:

The Integrity Data Technician provides technical support to the Facility Integrity Management Program with day-to-day pressure equipment integrity data entry and maintenance in the pressure equipment integrity database (Visions).
The responsibilities of this position will include but not limited to:

  • Input pressure vessel, boiler, pressure safety valve (PSV), piping, and atmospheric storage tank integrity static data onto templates to be uploaded into Visions.
  • Upload relevant equipment drawings and manufacturer data report (MDR) from Electronic Document Management (EDM) system into Visions and link them to the respective equipment;
  • Digitize relevant historical paper copies of documents and records into electronic formats ready for data upload into Visions when required;
  • Upload reviewed inspection and NDE reports into Visions and link them to the respective equipment;
  • Input non-destruction examination (NDE) data, including condition monitoring location (CML) readings from reviewed NDE reports;
  • Perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on pressure equipment integrity data from inspection reports and data validation reports to ensure accuracy and consistency before data entry;
  • Ensure consistencies of common data between the pressure equipment integrity database (Visions) and the work management platform (SAP);
  • Compile reports on compliance and key performance indicators (KPI) when required;
  • Maintain constant communications with Asset Data Management (ADM) to provide up-to-date technical guidance on Visions and SAP data management to the Facility Integrity Team;
  • Support integrity data management enhancement projects by ADM with user inputs and feedbacks.
  • This position will also require the individual to:
  • Review and process large amount of data day-to-day while maintaining attention to details;
  • A demonstrated ability to follow technical directions communicated both verbally or in writing; proactively seek information from appropriate subject matter experts when further information or clarifications when required
  • Ensure data being entered into the integrity database are accurate and complete with all due diligence; thoroughly understand the importance of data accuracy and completeness to the effective implementation of an integrity management program.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education diploma or University degree
  • 2 or more years of pressure equipment integrity data management experience
  • Proficient with Visions integrity database or other pressure equipment database
  • Proven track record of following a safety culture
  • Skilled with commonly used computer software such as MS Excel, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint
  • General awareness of relevant industry standards and regulations such as CSA B51, API 510, API 570, API 653, Alberta Pressure Equipment Safety Regulation, and BC Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulations
  • Good interpersonal skills

This is a 1 year contract.

  • Accountable for design and drafting requirements using CAD software to create Pipeline & Station project drawings (mechanical, route selection maps, details, electrical, civil), composites, etc.) through the application of principles & practices to create, edit and maintain safe, compliant, cost effective and efficient designs.
  • Accountable for coordination and oversight of third-party design consultants with respect to pipeline and major station designs to ensure that the designs follow the intent of Enbridge standards and specifications.
  • Accountable to research and assemble all pertinent and relevant information (design criteria, parameters, material requisitions, documents, Bill of Materials, etc.) to be used for engineering designs.
  • The responsibility extends to the coordination and prioritization of tasks and work across multiple client groups, internal and external.
  • Responsible to support corporate manuals (Station, Isometric, C&M, Portal, etc.) and programs by preparing, creating and editing technical drawings & details.


MUST HAVE'S:

  • College diploma or university degree in a technical/engineering program, with a preference for the Mechanical, Architecture or Civil disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years advanced technical experience applying engineering principles to designs and drawings.
  • Excellent technical design and drafting skills using CAD software.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Solid written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a team setting, with minimal supervision.


NICE TO HAVE'S:

  • OACETT - A.Sc.T., C.Tech. or C.E.T.
  • Experience with Bentley Products (PlantSpace, OpenPlant, MicroStation, ProjectWise), and/or AutoCAD products (AutoPlant).
  • 2 years work experience designing & drafting natural gas or related facilities.

Our client is looking for a Maintenance and Turnaround Supervisor in Medicine Hat, AB.

**This is a 1 month contract** ideally starting in September, 2020.

The Turnaround Supervisor is ultimately responsible for the success of turnaround project events by managing the organization. This position leads the plant and contractor teams in planning, pre-turnaround and turnaround execution such that the ultimate goals of the turnaround project are met.

  • Must have more than extensive years experience in maintenance turnaround work preferably mechanical in Petrochemical or Petroleum Refining industry of which at least significant years as Supervisor, and moderate years as Site Manager.
  • Must have moderate years experience as a Turnaround Supervisor.
  • Preferably Degree in Mechanical discipline or equivalent qualification.
  • Must have proven leadership qualities & be able to organize up to 50 Engineers/Supervisors of different disciplines and manage site organization independently.
  • Significant experience using SAP, Primavera, and standard Microsoft Office Software.

Material Coordinator

Our client is looking for a Material Coordinator in Prince George, BC.

This is a 6 month contract.

Ideal if you have your own transport due to facility location.

- Must be flexible to work some weekends.

Duties:

To receive, check, maintain, and account for all material used in assigned construction projects.

The primary responsibilities shall include but not be limited to the following:

  • Maintain required record keeping system for materials, manufacturers' equipment data, and general correspondence for assigned construction projects.
  • Check all materials received from vendors for correctness and condition of materials.
  • Deliver/ship materials to the construction site and assist in unloading, handling, loading of materials.
  • Assure that all material received is stored in a safe and non-damaging manner and shelter is provided where necessary.
  • Maintain schedules of anticipated material deliveries from Purchasing Departments and various vendors and keeps the Construction Office and other interested parties informed.
  • Collect, account, and follow proper methods of disposal for unused materials at the completion of projects.
  • Collect, account, and follow proper methods of disposal for retired materials as specified in the Environmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Investigate discrepancies reported by the Controller's Department on the difference report.
  • Investigate any damage or loss associated with materials.

Qualifications:

  • Safe operation of lift truck.
  • Safe use of material handling equipment.
  • Introductory knowledge of gas pipeline construction and be able to complete assigned work under limited supervision.

Our client is looking for an Operator in Saskatoon, SK.

*This is a 3 month contract paying $25.52 per hour*

The OT expectation is up to 20 hours per week.

Depending on job level, duties may include:

  • Loading and unloading trucks with asphalt or emulsified asphalt products
  • Heating and unloading railcars of asphalt or other bulk liquids
  • Operating and maintaining equipment including pumps, mills, forklifts, other mobile equipment.
  • Receiving, shipping, storing, blending and heating asphalt, emulsion and chemicals used in manufacturing of emulsified asphalt
  • Boiler supervision
  • Production of emulsified asphalt products
  • Order taking from customers


Core Responsibilities:

  • Product handling including loading, unloading, heating and blending products
  • Ensuring safe work practices and adhering to company policy and procedures including understanding and following HOIMS rules and policies. Maintain personal training matrix and safety scorecard compliance
  • Production of emulsified asphalt, includes preparing raw materials, milling and performing quality control checks
  • Order taking
  • Proper completion of inventory and shipping documentation
  • Maintain all equipment in a proper and safe manner


Must have qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Power Engineering certificate to level of facility employed (3rd or 4th) Note that there is a steam ticket premium.
  • 0-12 months minimum experience in manufacturing or industrial operations role
  • Basic PC proficiency and proficiency with Word, Excel, E-mail and SAP

Nice to have qualifications

  • Post-secondary education/training
