Financial Controller

Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a smaller, rapidly expanding subsidiary of a FTSE 100 listed organisation based in Central London, that currently has assets across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.

This is a diverse role and you will need to have the confidence to run with various projects and deal with senior individuals (CFO and equivalent level). The role sits within a small, newly formed team, and will work closely with another Controller, and will be diverse with new challenges daily. You must be a self-starter, hard-working and able to embrace challenges as and when they arise, with limited support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review of internal management reports as well as preparation of board reporting packs
  • Preparing consolidated financial statements and monthly reports
  • Responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of various parent/'holdco' companies
  • Liaising with local Managers at the Assets
  • Identifying areas for improvement in the control environment across the group, and assisting in implementing changes to address these
  • Taking control of issues as and when they arise and seeing them through to resolution
  • Managing annual budgeting process across the group
  • Assist in co-ordinating audit process for group accounts as well as certain holdco companies
  • Transfer pricing studies, analysis and documentation

Education, Qualification and Experience Required

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant with min 5 years PQE
  • Strong technical accounting background - Consolidations a must;
  • Commercial acumen relating to financial analysis;
  • Big 4 articles desirable;
  • As the Assets are Global, Strong Tax knowledge would be advantageous
  • Proficient in Excel and Basic Accounting Packages (SAP; Hyperion);
  • Experience in preparation of consolidated financial statements and managing audits.
  • Must have strong excel with experience preparing and consolidating financial statements
  • Strong academics
  • SAP as well as HFM or Hyperion systems experience desirable
  • Proactive, hardworking, highly organised and self-motivated
  • Someone good on detail but also can see the "big picture"
  • Good with people
  • Commercial acumen with the willingness to travel occasionally

Primary Focus:
A leader in energy industry in crude and natural gas transportation and gathering, has an immediate need for a Senior Cost Engineer. This position will be responsible for providing "Total Cost Control" guidance, governance and support functions on assigned projects for Authorization for Expenditure components (engineering, procurement, construction, project management, support groups, contingency, escalation, etc.). This position will report directly to Supervisor, Project Controls, Core Gas Projects. The primary responsibility for this position will be to support the Cost Control. The position may also have a supporting role in Schedule Control and other Project Controls Specialist functions. Project assignments can range from less than one year / $1MM to multi-year $500 MM. The position is located in Houston in a mainly office environment with occasional travel to other offices or project sites in United States and Canada.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university, preferably in Business Administration, Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Completion of a Certified Cost Engineer (AACE's CCC/ CCE) or Project Management Professional credential (PMP) is preferred.
  • Proficient in SAP, EcoSys, Excel, PowerPoint and Word with proven technical writing abilities.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in performing cost and schedule management and other project controls functions over engineering, procurement, construction components on large capital projects, preferably in the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Industrial and/or Power industries.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to respond to and anticipate information needs and present that information in a clear concise manner.
  • Experience in developing, enhancing and implementing cost and schedule standards.
  • Experience in using and enhancing cost controls tools and associated systems.
  • Effective analytical skills with the ability to understand detailed workflows for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction.
  • Must be able to work with a team dispersed over multiple locations.


Description
The Cost Control function is responsible for cost controls, invoices, forecasting, and analyzing productivity factors and cost/schedule performance indices. Additional responsibilities are related to work extra authorizations and risk identification for the project. Also responsible for generating all monthly, bi-monthly, and quarterly reports with intended audiences ranging from local project team members to senior level company executives and the Board of Directors.

Duties / Technical Expertise - Cost Control

  • Provide support to the Project Manager, project team and project cost controls staff on how cost should be planned, tracked, measured, forecasted and reported during project execution and/or development. Monthly review of cost/cash flow forecasts with the Project Manager and extended project team to generate regular reporting requirements.
  • Provide timely, accurate and relevant guidance, governance and support to projects on approved cost controls standards to manage Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) components including External Engineering services, Procurement of Material/Equipment, Construction services, internal cost, Allowance for Funds Used During Construction, Contingency, Escalation, etc.
  • Maintain cost and schedule planning, tracking and reporting tools. Provide timely support to the Project Controls Supervisor for monthly review meetings with Senior Management.
  • Possess a solid understanding and application of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and methodology in order to identify, analyze and report cost risks in a timely fashion.
  • Manage continuous and collaborative communication with Project Managers and project cost controls teams to address project cost related needs.
  • Monitor project reporting and identify deviations from standard reports. Assist project cost controls teams with timely and accurate data gathering and delivery issues.
  • Participate and resolve any issues in execution of joint Cost, Schedule and Risk Health Checks to verify effective planning and implementation of cost processes.
  • Take interest and actively participate in project meetings with vendors to understand and become familiar with changes in project status in order to provide assistance in the areas of cost.

  • Good interpersonal skills and presence.

Our client is seeking a Sourcing and Contract Specialist for their Calgary location.
Responsibilities

  • Conduct review of key existing contracts within assigned categories to identify business risks and ensure commercial and technical competitiveness within the marketplace.
  • Accountable for new vendor justification process.
  • Prepare and conduct RFI/RFP/RFQ events (generally over $100,000).
  • Manage all aspect of contract formation with vendors, including:
    • Provide commercial feedback on acceptance/risks during contract negotiations to business stakeholders,
    • Obtain legal/clause owner approval for deviations from controlled clauses,
    • Maintaining an accurate contract change log during negotiations,
    • Maintaining accurate records within the contracts database, and
    • Ensuring invoices are receiving rate validation and Purchase Orders are being utilized.
  • Verifies all aspects of the order, including pricing to ensure conformance with company policy while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction and responsiveness.
  • Organize and conduct vendor kick-off meetings for vendors related to transactional efficiencies and technology enablement initiatives.
  • Resolve and communicate recurring invoicing issues with vendors to ensure timely payment for goods and services.


Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience working in the oil and gas industry in a Supply Chain role, oil sands experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Supply Chain or law.
  • Experience conducting RFP events with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Experience negotiating contract provisions related to warranty, acceptance criteria, indemnity, title, termination and cancellation.
  • Requires a strong understanding of discipline.
  • Able to apply knowledge and experience to complex problems and develop recommendations.
  • Makes decisions within broad parameters.
  • Acts as an informal resource for others with less experience.
  • Working knowledge of SAP MM module

The role:

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to join the Unconventional Resources Planning & Performance Management Division (UR P&PM).

The UR P&PM division provides finance, accounting, and planning support to Unconventional Resources operational departments encompassing drilling and stimulation, seismic, facility planning, and production operations. In this highly visible role, UR P&PM routinely interacts with representatives from Saudi Aramco Finance, Corporate Planning, Upstream and Supply Planning functions.

Your primary role will involve working closely with internal stakeholders to support operations and ensure financial accountability in accordance with company guidelines.

Minimum Requirements

As the successful candidate you will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Finance.

You will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.

You must possess demonstrated experience in accounting, budgeting, planning, performance management, capital management, expenditure analysis or related finance and accounting functions. Prior experience with shale/unconventional gas operations is strongly preferred.

You must possess working knowledge of applicable International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

You should hold relevant professional certification - CPA, CMA, CA, CGMA, CAPPA, or equivalent. Master Degree is a plus.

You will be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. SAP knowledge highly desired.

Duties & Responsibilities

You will be required to perform the following duties:

Perform analytical and staff accounting functions in the areas of revenue recognition, cost management, budgeting and performance management.

Support monthly close process and related reporting activities.

Compile and consolidate financial information for use by management.

Prepare and analyze capital cost for Asset managers.

Provide mentorship and guidance to other UR analysts.
