Senior Project Controls Specialist

Our client, a leading Oil & Gas owner/operator organization is looking to add a Senior Project Controls Specialist to their Calgary team for a 1 year independent contract.

Position Overview

Reporting to Manager of Project Controls, this individual will providing an in-depth and well rounded set of project control services in the areas of planning/scheduling, budgeting, cost control, project management, progress and performance analysis etc.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible to develop, maintain and continuously improve all aspects of project planning / scheduling and Cost Control.
  • Develop and maintain Work Breakdown Structure, Work Packages, Control Accounts and the Cost Breakdown Structure for assigned project.
  • Responsible for the producing effective scheduling reports, cost reports, incurred cost flow reports and forecast for the project.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate schedule management involving the critical path method of scheduling techniques, estimating change notices, project incurred / actual costs management, change management process (scope changes, non-scope changes etc.)
  • Onboarding and continuous stewardship of Engineering, procurement and Construction contractors to the organization's project controls requirements for early compliance to the contractual controls obligations and standards.
  • Provide a Project Control view of the development scope of work on projects
  • Provide project progress and performance earned value (EV) verification, compares planned, forecast and actual hours, key quantity installed and trend in the field, cost control and explains variances;
  • Identify future potential cost / schedule forecast through data-analytics and makes a judgment regarding its impacts.
  • Coordinate the preparation, consolidation and analysis of project reports assuming responsibility for its overall accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with functional counter-parts like PC Estimating, Regional Development, Construction, Supply Chain, Finance, and Project Governance to achieve project goals.
  • Working with contractors and functional counterparts, works on the month-end reporting w.r.t schedule and cost variance analysis, project performance metrics, and stewardship process per required timelines.


Key Qualifications

  • 12 - 15 years of project controls experience in the Oil & Gas Industry within the field or the home office.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant field
  • performance management in a major projects environment a requirement
  • Experience in various phases and stages of the projects will be an advantage
  • Additional experience in cost estimating fundamentals, and risk management an asset
  • Ability to be hands-on in planning /scheduling, Cost Control to support critical project needs and meeting tight deliverable deadlines
  • Working knowledge of SAP, EcoSys, Primavera, Microsoft office etc.
  • The Individual may be required to travel to site during the construction phase of the project.

Petroplan are looking to recruit a Junior Commercial Analyst position to be based in London on a Permanent staff basis full time.

The ideal cadidate will be someone who will meet existing clients, build relationships with them, maintain them, do presentations, and helping external stake holders within the industry.

Ideally you will have just a few years experience within the energy sector.

Knowledge, qualifications and experience

  • A degree with an analytical focus would be preferable
  • Commercial and/or operational experience in the energy industry (gas industry preferred)
  • Able to communicate effectively with people at all levels (internally and externally) of an organisation
  • Excellent report writing, verbal and presentational skills
  • High level of numeracy and analytical skills - able to review, analyse and report on data and information of varying complexity
  • Excellent standard of computer literacy, particularly use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Our client, a leading owner/operator Oil & Gas organization is looking to add a Fatigue Analysis Project Engineer for a 2 year independent contract based in St. John's, NL.

Reporting to the LET Manager, this individual will develop conceptual basis for fatigue assessment study.

Key Responsibilities:

o Develop conceptual basis for fatigue assessment study
o Review and generate technical project documentation
o Manage interfaces and coordinate work with other business unit functions and external 3rd Parties to achieve overall project objectives
o Assist with the development and issue of 3rd Party scope of work packages
o Identification of contingency solutions
o Cost estimation and stewardship
o Schedule input and review
o Responsible for Fracture mechanics fatigue analysis
o Support development of procedures for underwater diving operations (recognizing constraints)
o Oversee the use of motion data acquisition

Key Requirements:

o 6 - 10 years of relevant project engineering experience with a focus on fatigue/stress analysis
o P.ENG is highly desirable
o Previous subsea/marine project exposure is an asset
o Team focused individual

Job Description:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Engineering Technology Degree strongly preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Certified Cost Professional (CCP) preferred.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in project costing, scheduling, estimating and cost control functions.
  • 5 years Oil and Gas projects experience.
  • Experience with cost estimating and control guidelines.
  • Proficiency with Primavera, SAP/Oracle, Word, PowerPoint, and should be an expert in MS Excel.
  • Familiar with routine cost estimating methods such as quantity surveying, Make to Order (MTO) summaries, unit costing, factoring, contingency allotment, total cost validation by analogy.
  • Excellent team working and interpersonal skills required.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills, with the versatility to communicate at all levels in a clear and concise manner.

  • The position is permanent staff and not a contract position
  • Based at Head Office
  • Working hours 7am - 3.30pm, Sunday to Thursday

Petroplan are seeking a Project Manager for a 2-year assignment based in Dubai.

The selected candidate shall have a minimum of 20 years' experience managing Open Cycle Gas Turbine Projects.

Day to day, the candidate will be co-ordinating all necessary actions to ensure successful completion of the companies open cycle project. Full conformity with agreed specifications and project programme is required. Project Manager will also be responsible for relevant contractual and commercial matters.

Start date - ASAP

Salary - 35,000 AED per month


*Salary is an all-inclusive rate and must cover accommodation, transport and all other amnesties
*Visa and Medical Insurance is provided

Project Controls Manager


We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading engineering consultancy, who are looking for a Project Controls Manager to work on their waste-to-energy PMC operation in Sharjah, UAE.
The Project Controls Manager will be required to;

  • Provide leadership for planning and scheduling, progress measurement, and reporting for the entire project
  • Provide guidance, direction, and specialized assistance to planning staff, interface with client, attend regular meetings, and provide statistical reports
  • Develop, implement and maintain planning, processes, procedure, systems and tools and monitor compliance
  • Provide guidance and direction for the resolution of planning and issues as they arise
  • Provide regular summary reports to the Project Management team to provide awareness of key project parameters, and assist with exceptions
  • Provide direct supervision of staff



Skills/ Experience

  • BSc or equivalent from an accredited university
  • 15 years' experience within project controls in the energy sector.
  • 5 years' experience in a consultancy environment
  • Previous experience within a waste-to-energy plant is desirable.
  • Fully aware of all contract types, project planning, execution and work processes within engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of estimating systems and software and manufacturing processes for critical and major project equipment.
  • Extensive experience with Primavera for project controls
  • Knowledge of Monte Carlo simulations for risk analysis
  • Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.
