Subsea Engineer, Manifolds and Connection Systems Discipline Engineer
Work Location The role is based in London or Aberdeen
Role Synopsis (NTID & Candidate details for facilitated moves) Global Subsea Systems is responsible for the specification, design, delivery, and maintenance of Subsea Production Systems (SPS). This includes components from the wellhead through to flow line entry as well as miscellaneous topsides elements. acts as single face to the subsea hardware suppliers for equipment design procurement, storage, maintenance, and onshore repair.
The Subsea Engineer for Manifold and Connection Systems discipline engineering will lead engineering execution of manifolds and connection systems scope across projects in the Eastern Hemisphere, as well as support the development of engineering standards related to equipment.
Key Accountabilities:
* Provide support to project teams as needed in the development of system requirements, such as Subsea Basis of Design, P&IDs, field layouts, system schematics, etc.;
* Develop/review project scopes of work, functional requirements, SDRLs, hardware equipment lists, design verification plans, etc. in support of hardware RFQs;
* Provide input to suppler technical bid evaluations;
* Provide regular status reports to lead engineer for manifold and connection systems;
* Perform design verification activities (e.g. equipment design reviews, drawing & analysis reviews and test & installation procedure reviews);
* Review technology readiness assessments and qualification plans, procedures and reports against API 6A/17D requirements for subsea connection systems;
* Develop, review, endorse engineering decision papers;
* Review and endorse supplier deviation requests, change requests, technical queries, and interface requests;
* Liaise with SMEs to provide technical support to project teams, delivery teams and suppliers for resolution of engineering issues.
* Develop and collate lessons learned for manifold and connection system equipment and disseminate across projects;
* Contribute constructability perspectives in equipment design and constructability reviews, fabrication readiness reviews.
* Perform fabrication site visits for pre-production meetings, testing support and HSSE influence;
* Support planning of aftermarket activities, including development of scopes of work, development of SIT procedures, etc;
* Provide support and input to Subsea Construction Team as required for development of installation and commissioning plans/procedures, rigging design and analysis, and execution of offshore activities and troubleshooting;



Essential Experience and Job Requirements

Must hold a Bachelor's in Engineering Degree


* 6 years of oilfield experience, including major plant or process piping construction;
* Technical expertise with manifolds, foundations, jumpers/ spools, connectors and valves;
* Knowledge of subsea hardware suppliers' engineering and manufacturing processes and constraints and knowledge of standard equipment offerings from suppliers;
* Experienced in application of industry standards and codes related to subsea hardware and systems including API 6A & 17D, ASME BPVC, ASME B31.8, API RP-17P, API RP-17R, API RP-2A, and API RP-2GEO as well as ISO, DNV and NORSOK equivalent specifications;
* Experience in performing or reviewing piping and structural analyses for manifolds, foundations and/or jumpers;
* Experience with factory acceptance testing requirements for subsea equipment;
* Knowledge of structural and piping fabrication and NDE;
* Knowledge of common subsea hardware materials of construction;
* Professional Accreditation (PE or Chartership).

Desirable Criteria:
* Knowledge of installation methodologies and installation interfaces with manifold and connection system equipment;
* Knowledge of major valve suppliers and their standard equipment offerings;
* Knowledge of production control equipment and its interfaces with manifold and connection system equipment;
* Broad experience with major projects through full project life cycle;
* Knowledge of processes for change management, risk management, deviation requests, and reliability planning and management.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE
The Project Engineer provides engineering skills to projects, tendering activities, engineering studies, vessels & equipment and/or offshore engineering processes. Compliance with and delivery against project plans, relevant engineering standards and contractual obligations is required. The Engineer will usually work as part of a team and may also be required to provide information and engineering guidance to other functions within the business. Work may be carried out onshore, onsite or offshore, therefore there is a requirement to go offshore with this position.
The Project Engineer will provide support to the execution of technical project objectives and with guidance, develops and applies a working knowledge of:

  • Onshore fabrication methods and practices
  • Subsea construction techniques (diver and diver less), equipment and methods (including estimation and planning of construction and IRM activities)
  • Rigging/sea fastening design, equipment and methods (including any legislative and regulatory requirements)
  • Basic vessel motion response theory
  • Basic knowledge of fabrication/construction contracting methods, with good commercial awareness
  • Offshore Medical and survival certificates are essential

Our client is seeking an Installation Project Engineering. This position incorporates the full installation process from the procedure preparation, the definition of installation aids, up to the mobilisation of the vessel and subsequent offshore operation.


It will be responsible for delivering fit for purpose rigid pipeline installation engineering on projects or tenders with specific focus on safe and cost-effective installation operation and will be responsible to the Senior Installation Engineer.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Performs detailed feasibility studies and installation procedure, considering all associated risk and ensure that all safety rules are considered for various operations such as pipe laying, riser installation, pipeline structure in line installation.
  • Determines and optimises operations installation times.
  • Ensure the quality of their deliverables while respecting the agreed schedule.
  • Interfaces with associated subsea related disciplines and understands the interfaces within a project environment.
  • Provides engineering support during operations with occasional periods offshore or on yard.
  • Ensures all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed.
  • Participates actively to the PG department know-how consolidation.
  • Proposes innovative solutions allowing cost & risks reduction


Personal Specification

  • Previous installation engineering background (methods or analysis, field engineer) is essential
  • Previous offshore worksite experience will be beneficial
  • Previous experience working on pipelay projects is essential/beneficial
  • Ability to work in small teams and to regularly interface with other teams

Principal Piping Engineer

A Principal Piping Engineer is required to work with a leading subsea contractor. The principal piping engineer will take a senior position with the team and be responsible for leading a team of piping engineers.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, detail and review technical documentation relating to subsea piping and mechanical systems, construction and installation.
  • Design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry Codes, Standards and Design Guides, Client Specifications and Scopes of Work.
  • Provide input to, check and approve manifold pipe work and tie-in general arrangement and isometric drawings.
  • Production of pipe work and fittings specifications.
  • Production of specifications and data sheet for subsea valves in accordance with API 6A or ISO 14723.
  • Package engineering and management of large valve and pipe fitting packages.
  • Provide mechanical and integrity calculations for piping and equipment, including pipe work stress analysis utilising CAESAR or similar software.
  • Coordinate pipe work and mechanical engineering support to the execution of multidiscipline projects in line with defined budget and schedule.
  • Liaise with associated subsea related disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project.
  • Provide piping engineering assistance during occasional periods of offshore or site working.
  • Provide piping engineering support to Business Acquisition and FEED study execution.
  • Train/mentor junior and Graduate Engineers.
  • Actively participate in relevant training to pursue continuing professional development.

Key Attributes required for this Position

  • Extensive & in-depth knowledge of all international subsea or topsides piping codes/ specs/ standards
  • Work with limited supervision to produce & check detailed stress/ flexibility design reports, feasibility reports, construction drawings, design specifications, material take-offs
  • A proven track record in engineering large scale topsides or subsea manifold / subsea processing/ towhead piping design teams (inter-disciple engineering/ drafting team/ extensive multi-component MTOs/ procurement & vendor selection support) as an integral part of a multidiscipline project.
  • Extensive engineering expertise & vendor knowledge of the piping components -forgings/ connectors/ flanges/ pulled bends/ small & large bore valves/ fittings/ seals & gaskets - supplied to the subsea Oil & Gas market
  • Extensive expert experience in pipe stress analysis / layouts and valve specification requirements for subsea piping towhead/ manifold systems and rigid riser/ tie-in pipe work.
  • Full knowledge of subsea valves / actuators & other equipment used in subsea development
  • Engineering knowledge of single bore & multi-bore hub connectors & associated subsea tie-in systems (flow-lines/ risers etc.) within the market
  • Awareness & engineering knowledge of piping topsides & HPHT subsea systems
  • Take full responsibility for datasheets/ specifications/ scope of work/ MTOs for piping components - valves/ equipment/ connectors/ flanges etc
  • Awareness & engineering knowledge of subsea mechanical equipment which is being developed
  • Working knowledge of 2D/ 3D software - capable to direct detailed design work
  • Awareness of subsea processing equipment & technologies
  • Skills & understanding of the cost schedule of all the major piping components for contributing to projects.
  • Knowledge of piping caisson design would be advantageous

Skills and Qualifications

  • Expert international piping knowledge in the subsea or topsides Oil & Gas sector.
  • Degree educated in relevant engineering discipline is desirable, but consideration will be given to those with extensive proven experience within a similar role
  • Chartered Engineer or aiming towards Fellow
  • Involvement within various Institute work would be advantageous
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers is essential.
  • Ability to lead and function within a design team and across multiple projects is essential

OVERVIEW OF ROLE
We have an analysis engineer position available in the Hydrodynamics Discipline within the Central Engineering unit based in Aberdeen. The responsibilities of the discipline are technical support and hydrodynamic analysis related to marine operations and subsea structure design for SURF and IRM projects. The work may include support to engineering studies and tenders as well as live projects.
The available position is primarily within structures and flexibles installation analysis, but the candidate should also expect to be exposed to other types of hydrodynamic and installation analyses. The position also offers a unique opportunity to follow-up the analysis work done at planning stage of a marine operation by either being directly involved in the execution phase or by collecting recorded data from the operations that can be used for comparison and validation of the analytical models.
Typical tasks:

  • Structure installation analysis both by simplified methods and in the time domain using software like e.g. Orcaflex
  • Flexible pipelines, risers, umbilicals and cables installation analysis using primarily, the software Orcaflex
  • Analysis of hydrodynamic in-place loads on subsea structures
  • Undertake and check others', analysis and engineering activities
  • Interface with project team and engineering teams


Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Proven relevant working experience
  • Knowledge and experience using the software Orcaflex and programming skills (in e.g. Python) is an advantage
  • Overview and understanding of applicable design codes, industry standards and legislative requirements
