Lead Rotating Equipment Engineer

Petroplan are seeking an experienced Lead Rotating Equipment Engineer to work for one of our clients, a mid-sized operator within the petro-chem industry. The role will be initially based in Houston but required to transfer to the Project Site in Louisiana (near Baton Rouge) in mid-2019.
Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Serves as site subject matter expert for rotating equipment.
  • Coordination of the technical rotating equipment disciplines activities during the different phases of the project.
  • Leads troubleshooting efforts related to rotating equipment issues onsite.
  • Monitoring of the compliance with the specified deadlines, contractual stipulations and quality of work.
  • Review and approve detailed rotating equipment engineering drawings and operating, testing, and commissioning procedures for Rotating and related disciplines.
  • Project schedule progress monitoring.
  • Document Management System.
  • Cost Control.
  • Punch listing, subsystems and systems acceptance.
  • Work Permit, Job Plan and Risk Analysis.
  • Interface with plant operations/maintenance.
  • Assists in the organization of project-related, technical meetings with the engineering company and/or third parties.
  • Lead participation of the technical rotating equipment discipline in meetings with vendors, equipment inspection and testing.
  • Oversee the development of basic design, detailed engineering and procurement- related activities of Rotating Equipment such as pumps, compressors, blowers and turbines.
  • Review and approve all related rotating equipment engineering project specifications and technical standards.
  • Review and participate in the selection process for all major rotating equipment and system.
  • Supervise and coordinate rotating equipment teams in the implementation of the above tasks.


Skills / Experience:

  • BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Associated experience with plant operations, commissioning and start up management
  • Experience in a project environment an advantage

Job Overview
This position provides project support and/or discipline support for various projects by researching, specifying, developing, designing, engineering and supporting construction of fire and gas detection and suppression systems. Individuals are expected to apply engineering principles, methods and techniques to the project assignments. The role will be heavily involved in the design of Downstream / LNG Facilities.
Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyzes data such as client design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Works with clients to develop a project's scope of work, estimates, and/or schedules.
  • Reviews and approves project drawings, standards and specifications.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the fire protection field, 10 years experience preferred.
  • Experienced in PHAST and LNG Fire 3 modeling experience required
  • EIT in Fire Protection, Licensed FPE preferred, Texas P. Eng. desirable.
  • LNG Industry or petrochemical project experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Petro-Chem facilities - LNG experience a plus

Senior Facility Engineer

A leading petroleum client is looking for a senior facility engineer to contribute to the companies' downstream facilities. The facility engineer will be reviewing and analysing downstream facilities performance, so as to identify opportunities to improve performance.
The facility engineer will be needed to monitor the execution of improvement plans, whilst simultaneously supporting the Asset manager and reporting to senior management and JV board members.

Principal Accountabilities

  • The facility engineer will monitor the actual performance of the existing facilities in order to verify that the facilities design targets, production yields and operating philosophies are being achieved, pro-actively communicate gaps to potential and propose improvement activities
  • Provide technical input on the actual performance of the facilities; including reliability, operability, availability and maintainability to ensure that the design proposed for any new development project is practical and realistic and unlikely to give rise to future operational problems.
  • Identify areas for cost reductions and propose alternative engineering solutions for the plant's improvement proposals and identify potential synergies, which are most effective in reducing the overall operating cost. Perform initial techno/economical evaluations of improvement proposals
  • Provide technical support to the commercial/ legal teams during negotiation of commercials.
  • Analyze asset's Work Plan and Budget (WPB) financial submissions against identified activities and priorities, pro-actively provide insights into degree of alignment between assets' management, propose actions to improve alignment
  • Verify Green House Gas (GHG) submission from assets to ensure that relevant assets comply with the requirements of GHG Procedure and that the GHG verification process is carried out in timely manner
  • Analyse the monthly flaring data submitted by assets for flare reporting to the Senior Management and to monitor companies' progress on reducing flared gas volume.
  • Provide mentoring and on the job training of Qatari engineers to ensure knowledge transfer and retention, career development and implementation of the directorate Qatarization plan.
  • Execute Heat and Material balance calculations on proposed asset improvements to ensure proposals are technically sound, communicate summaries economic evaluations for commercial department
  • Lead external benchmark activities and prepare improvement plan for assigned asset(s), to attain and maintain 1st quartile performance benchmark on capacity, reliability, cost, shutdown duration and other relevant technical parameters
  • Review operational and financial performance of the assets through assets' management and KPI reports. Develop internal management reports for leadership team.
  • Provide technical, and business inputs for the development of the downstream strategy and commercial negotiations
  • Develop stakeholder management plan and coordinate technology providers, consultants to insure external insights are captured for the generation of improvement initiatives and their evaluation.
  • Identify, evaluate and recommend integration and standardization opportunities
  • Prepare briefings and recommendations for board member on JV's



Decision Making Authority

  • Work to Department policies, procedures, engineering standards & directives from the supervisor.
  • Create independent work strategy & plan and establish direct communications with all relevant stakeholders Refer to Supervisor on technical decisions that would incur cost implication towards the company on any communication outside the department.
  • Seek guidance from Supervisor on any claims from the stakeholders on waivers from technical, environment and/or safety requirements
  • Recommend asset improvement / optimization plans, selections of technologies and budget and business plan input



Context / Special Features / Challenges

  • Considering the overlap, complexity and scale of the targeted process facility, the Facility Engineer must be able to independently plan and schedule work activities for self to determine the best way to accomplish the work within the allowed timeframe as allocated by the Supervisor. The job requires broad process/mechanical background and familiarity with process packages such as HYSIS and Multimedia I Microsoft software


Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required (higher academic qualification preferred) in Chemical Engineering I Mechanical Engineering Degree from an internationally recognized university and preferably with chartered engineering status.
  • Minimum of 15 years of broad based relevant industrial experience required, in an operational environment, preferably in plant management with at least a direct exposure to commercial and business development activities.
  • Experience should include exposure to major projects design, and a good knowledge of project execution strategies and multi discipline engineering activities.
  • Good understanding of discounted cash flow valuation methods and metrics such as NPV, IRR & financial metrics such as ROCE
  • Strong communication skills and proven decision making and problem-solving skills. Good command of the English language is essential, both written and verbal.
  • Strong negotiations and interpersonal skills are required

A leading petroleum company are looking for a Head of Project Development to provide support and guidance for offshore international and domestic existing and new field developments/projects for gas producing fields for QP and joint ventures (JV/EPSA/DPSA) from initiation to implementation.

Principal Accountabilities

  • The gas projects development head will review the international and domestic gas offshore facilities design of all new surface facilities development proposals to ensure that the proposed development configurations are the most reliable, cost effective and robust configurations and are in line with the agreed concept.
  • Explore all possible synergies among offshore assets to reduce OPEX/CAPEX. Evaluate where standardisation may be applied to process designs of similar process units and extend this philosophy to cover equipment and services to reduce inventories and cost of services.
  • Undertake necessary studies as gas projects development head to determine the suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of the selected offshore facilities to achieve established objectives.
  • Participate in peer, value engineering, and gate reviews at appropriate milestones during the development of projects to ensure compliance with the approved conceptual designs in order to eliminate future variation orders during implementation phase of projects.
  • Conduct lifecycle cost analysis/cost estimation for developments and submit a comparison table of options with preliminary recommendation to the Assistant Manager of Project Development.
  • Review all Annual Work Program and Budget (WP&B) submissions & monitor work plan implementation progress and expenditures.
  • Participate in joint activities with QP partners to review offshore infrastructure integrity issues and any other problematic areas related to the offshore operation of fields.
  • Maintain technical data base to be used as reference for future development as validation and benchmarking tools for new business evaluation opportunities
  • Assist in developing of proper procedures, processes, and controls for project development, monitoring and benchmarking.
  • Support setting up commercial / fiscal agreements and economics evaluation by making sure the facilities inputs (CAPEX/OPEX/Facilities configuration) meet QP expectations
  • Coordinate with other functional groups both in and outside the department to support Asst. Manager, Offshore Projects Development to manage interfaces between all offshore Oil & Gas operators/projects.

Decision Making Authority

  • Work within established Corporate/Directorate/Department policies, procedures, engineering standards and directives from the VS Director.
  • Authority to recommend changes in design and advise the Assistant Manager, Offshore Project Development to endorse the submission of proposal for offshore developments and effective control of execution of the project.
  • Responsible for recommending, negotiating, developing of a multi-billion dollar offshore projects development.
  • Follow up on JV and DPSA Projects to ensure QP's experience and interests are properly represented.

Job Overview

Cooling Tower Engineer / Project Engineer
Petroplan are currently recruiting a highly bespoke vacancy for an Ontario based engineering company. This company is part a global enterprise which employs over 15,000 people. We currently seek a Cooling Tower Engineer. For this role, the selected candidate will work alongside the Industrial Water Engineering group carrying out Project based assignments, this position will encompass Project Management, Sales Assistance, Estimations, Proposals and Planning.
For this position, the candidates can be based in Toronto ON, Edmonton AB or if required can work from home if highly experienced. For this position candidates at varying levels of seniority and experience will considered but a solid understanding of thermodynamics is essential.
Role Responsibilities:

  • Support product / development testing and design activities, and prepare product and design scopes.
  • Produce ratings and performance curves of thermal efficiencies to assist sales teams for proposals.
  • Produce thermal ratings for new and existing product lines.
  • Manages all project planning; i.e., clearly define scope and ensure clarity of project technical schedule and budget requirements, performs cash flow planning, manpower loading models; responsible for developing and maintaining required project records.
  • Prepare Bill of Material (BOM) for projects.
  • Review RFQ's and mechanical & structural design specifications to ensure they meet engineering and safety standards.
  • Works with or acts as Proposal Manager on customer requirements; i.e., reviews RFP (Request for Proposal) and specification, coordinates with sales and marketing to determine scope of work and is responsible for scope definition, prepares and/or approves all cost estimates, develops preliminary implementation plan, may assist in the estimating, proposal, and sales process, controls final negotiations on engineering/construction project.
  • This job does require a certain amount of travel as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • P.Eng from either Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering discipline with equivalent industry experience
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics and mechanical components working with Industrial Water systems and with higher emphasis in Industrial Cooling Towers.
  • 5 years industry experience in Cooling Tower Engineering, Heat Transfer Fluid Systems, Project Management, and Project Estimation.
  • A solid understanding of technical drawings and software packages such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
