Job Description

A global energy organization is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to provide expert-level support for the development and operation of a major LNG facility. This position plays a key role in bridging process design and operational execution, ensuring engineering deliverables align with project goals.

The ideal candidate will bring advanced technical expertise in LNG process systems, including feed gas pre-treatment, liquefaction, refrigeration, and boil-off gas (BOG) and storage operations.

This position will be based on-site in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary technical authority for assigned process areas, ensuring operations adhere to original design parameters and performance expectations.
  • Oversee and validate process engineering documentation, including heat and material balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Define system design criteria and perform sizing and rating of process equipment such as heat exchangers, vessels, columns, and separators.
  • Serve as a liaison with licensors, equipment vendors, and subcontractors to guarantee successful integration of process systems across the facility.
  • Provide hands-on support for plant operations by troubleshooting complex issues using core principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and process chemistry.
  • Develop and maintain real-time process monitoring tools that track system performance and recommend enhancements for operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Create and maintain engineering and operating procedures, including those for unique or transitional operating conditions.
  • Support the planning and execution of plant turnarounds and shutdowns, offering technical input and process guidance.
  • Develop and update complex simulation models for process units using tools such as Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus.
  • Lead or contribute to process optimization efforts, safety and technical audits, economic feasibility studies, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
  • Collaborate with regulatory and site engineering teams to resolve technical queries, manage non-conformance issues, and review concession requests.
  • Conduct life cycle cost analyses and availability/reliability assessments for equipment design alternatives.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent chartered engineering status preferred
Experience:
  • 10 years of experience in process engineering or plant operations in industrial or energy sectors
  • At least 3 years of direct experience in LNG operations preferred; experience with cryogenic natural gas, NGL, or hydrocarbon processing environments will also be considered
  • Proven ability to support the full lifecycle of process engineering—conceptual design through to commissioning and operations
  • Prior site-based experience in a senior technical or supervisory engineering role
  • Strong familiarity with LNG-specific equipment and systems
Additional Skills & Competencies:
  • Proficient in simulation and engineering software such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, and industrial data historians
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to multidisciplinary teams
  • Practical understanding of major process design codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other productivity tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, high-performance environment
