Geologist (or Snr. Geologist)

Job Description

KEY OBJECTIVES

Geologist (or Snr. Geologist) performs

• Regional geological studies such as tectonic evolution assessment, basin analysis, and geological modeling in the Sarawak basin (Balingian and Tatau provinces)
• Prospect & lead generation and maturation such as seismic interpretation and resource estimation
• Drilling preparation and operation work for exploration wells
• Post-well evaluations
• Supporting stakeholder management (e.g., ARPR)

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Perform geological studies such as structural and stratigraphic evaluations (in the Balingian and Tatau provinces, Sarawak Basin), plan and manage studies by geological service contractors or in-house study team in a time and cost-efficient manner
• Perform seismic interpretation of seismic data
• Contribute in the prospect evaluation in geological studies.
• Support resource estimation of prospects & leads
• Perform drilling preparation making geological drilling program and conducting other relevant geological work for exploration wells
• Support drilling operations
• Perform post-drill evaluation (e.g., planning, budgeting, contracting etc.)
• Support new business development and CCS projects
• Support and review laboratory work
• Present proposal, results and give recommendations to team, Management, Partners, MPM and/or stakeholder

KEY AUTHORITIES

• As provided/assigned by Exploration Manager and Geology Lead

WORKING RELATIONSHIP

• Internal: Head Office, Drilling department, Procurement department, and Commercial & Finance department
• External: Contractor's project management team, JV Partners, PETRONAS, and potential partners

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• 5 to 15 years experiences in Geology or related exploration areas with knowledge of regional geology, interpretation, and related modelling works
• Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Geology and/or Geoscience
• Experiences in Sarawak Basin (Balingian and Tatau provinces preferred)
• Experiences in Exploration phase
• Knowledge of structural geology, stratigraphy, basin analysis, prospect generation & maturation, drilling preparation & operation, and post-well evaluation
• Petrel and other G&G software experience
• Experience of ARPR reporting preferred
• Able to communicate, internally and externally, with diverse range of stakeholders from various disciplines

HSE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Understand and comply with applicable Company and regulatory HSE requirements
• Responsible for rolling-out corporate HSE initiatives to the department.
• Display excellent safety leadership behavior and act as safety role model to other Company employees.
