Job Description


We are seeking an Energy Storage System Engineer to provide support for energy storage power system engineering and project engineering throughout various stages from development to operations. The ideal candidate will be an expert in energy storage with a strong commitment to decarbonization.
This is a full-time position, and we prefer the team member to be based in the Northern California area, with the ability to work in office at least two days per week.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in engineering due diligence for greenfield development and operating energy storage resource acquisitions.
  • Engage in engineering efforts for the development, project execution, and operations of energy storage resources.
  • Develop and manage tools and systems for engineering energy storage systems.
  • Support energy storage equipment cost management and continuous improvement efforts.


Primary Responsibilities:


The Energy Storage System Engineer will undertake the following tasks related to energy storage systems and their components. Additional responsibilities may arise as the company expands.
Engineering:

  • Provide engineering support for development, execution, origination, and operations functions.
  • Manage engineering specifications and standards.
  • Develop and manage engineering tools.
  • Contribute to technology road mapping and deployment strategy.
  • Explore research and development opportunities.
  • Develop processes and services.
  • Manage the design phase throughout the lifecycle.


Procurement:

  • Support procurement strategy.
  • Manage major equipment supplier contracts.
  • Foster relationships with major equipment suppliers.
  • Oversee third-party consultants and engineers of record.
  • Develop and maintain energy storage pricing tools.
  • Assist in EPC pricing tool development.
  • Develop technical specifications and performance requirements.


Operations:

  • Conduct performance engineering for operating assets.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent.
  • Implement file storage and document management standards.
  • Provide early-stage support for third-party O&M providers.


Required Skills/Experience:


We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in a related field (engineering, mathematics, physics, IT, computer science, or related).
  • 5 years of experience in energy storage system technologies, preferably in a project ownership role.
  • Experience in the development, engineering, procurement, construction, and operation of energy storage systems.
  • Proficiency in studying, sizing, and analyzing data of complete energy storage systems.
  • Familiarity with modeling energy storage economics for utility-scale projects.
  • Operations experience with energy storage assets.
  • Experience in supporting contract negotiation for equipment supply, service, and EPC agreements.
  • Previous collaboration with Owner's Engineers and Engineers of Record.
  • Proficiency in electrical and mechanical drawings and network diagrams.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, LAN/WAN configuration, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Familiarity with mechanical packaging for electrical products.
