Our Houston based Exploration and Production client is currently sourcing an experienced
Staff Reservoir Engineer - Onshore Canada.The
Onshore Reservoir Engineer will be responsible for reservoir management of the unconventional Duvernay asset in Canada. The role has broad responsibilities in the areas of development, reserves, surveillance, and optimization. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to frame, implement and develop initiatives to understand resource potential and to optimize future development.
The role entails outlining the scope and requirements for significant projects, devising various efficient and cost-effective solutions for specialized technical challenges, and preparing executive summaries or presentations on emerging topics. The
Staff Onshore Reservoir Engineer involves foreseeing management’s inquiries and addressing them effectively and strategically. Additionally, this role may lead multi-disciplinary teams on small to medium-sized projects and cultivate an understanding of other functions to better tackle new opportunities. The role includes questioning inconsistent data, fostering innovation, implementing new ideas, identifying problems, and providing solutions.
In this role, the individual leads specific projects, works independently to achieve results, enhances technical skills, develops business insight, gains credibility, and builds strong internal relationships.
The Staff Reservoir Engineer will work in the client's
Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely.
Responsibilities - Work with multidisciplinary teams to create development plans for our client's Onshore Canada assets
- Utilize DCA and RTA/PTA techniques to evaluate and forecast well performance
- Conduct industry surveillance to understand competitor performance, best practices and identify areas of improvement through integration of public and proprietary data
- Championing technical reviews, data collection, execution planning and economic analysis
- Work jointly with geoscience, Land, D&C, Production and Facilities teams to better define and integrate development plans, rig schedules, and capacity/facilities constraints
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to understand how well spacing/stacking/landing pattern optimization impacts depletion effects, reserves bookings, development decisions, etc.
- Integrate field development and business plan assumptions into reserves updates
- Prepare forecasts for PDP locations, undeveloped location bookings, and associated documentation for the annual reserves process
- Provide technical, economical evaluation and documentation needed to support investment opportunities and financial approvals
- Champion and support technical projects/studies which enhance ongoing asset understanding, development and optimization on an as needed basis
- Conduct technical reviews and asset valuations for both operated positions and business development opportunities to maximize economic value
- Responsible for standardization, management and update of Reservoir Engineering databases
- Benchmarking oneself, the team, and the function against peers
- Identifying and suggesting process improvements to enhance efficiency within one's work or function with minimal supervision
- Applying advanced professional knowledge and expertise in tasks requiring more discretion
- Showing proficiency and competency in a significant area, with a comprehensive understanding of related fields

Qualifications/Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Minimum 12 years of experience in unconventional reservoir engineering
- Ability to manage big datasets is required
- Must be effective at creating impactful data visualizations and leveraging them to affect decisions
- Fundamental knowledge on data analytics and multivariate analysis
- Fundamental knowledge of drilling, completions and facilities operations
- Proficient in industry surveillance platforms such as ENVERUS Prism or S&P Impact
- Proficient in economic analysis software, preferably ValNav
- Experience with IHS Harmony/Whitson, Spotfire/Power BI and data analytics tools
- Proficient in reserves calculations and familiarity with SEC guidelines
- Experience with asset valuations, acquisitions, trades, or divestitures
- Experience with technical studies, simulations, or trials in:
- Well spacing and lateral length type curve adjustments
- Parent/child well production impacts
- Well completions optimization
- Flowback optimization and analysis
- Refracs
Desired/Preferred Qualifications- Experience in Montney or Duvernay preferred
- Experience with ValNav or Enersight preferred
- BCOGC or APEGA P.ENG preferred
- Successful track record in the fast-paced environment of an active operated asset
