Senior Staff Reservoir Engineer to support its unconventional asset development efforts in Canada, specifically targeting the Duvernay formation. This position will lead the reservoir management strategy across development planning, reserves estimation, surveillance, optimization, and cross-functional integration.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of technical proficiency, business acumen, and leadership in driving value through reservoir engineering insights. The role includes oversight of key initiatives, anticipating strategic needs, and influencing decision-making at various levels of the organization. The position is based in Houston, with flexibility for partial remote work.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead development planning and reservoir management for unconventional Canadian assets (e.g., Duvernay).
- Perform decline curve analysis (DCA), rate transient analysis (RTA), and pressure transient analysis (PTA) to evaluate and forecast well performance.
- Drive economic evaluations, reserves bookings, and business case development for drilling and investment decisions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (geoscience, land, drilling, completions, production, and facilities) to align development strategies with business goals.
- Assess spacing, stacking, and landing zone strategies to understand their impact on depletion, well performance, and economic recovery.
- Integrate assumptions into reserves updates and generate robust documentation for internal and external audits.
- Conduct benchmarking and surveillance of industry competitors to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Champion asset optimization projects such as well spacing, parent/child well interaction, refrac potential, and flowback strategy analysis.
- Support technical due diligence for acquisitions, divestitures, and other business development initiatives.
- Provide mentorship and thought leadership to junior engineers and cross-functional partners.
- Identify inconsistencies or inefficiencies in workflows and implement innovative, scalable solutions.
- Prepare clear, data-driven presentations and executive summaries to communicate technical recommendations.
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline; advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in reservoir engineering with a focus on unconventional oil and gas plays.
- Deep understanding of Canadian resource plays—experience in Duvernay or Montney preferred.
- Strong experience with IHS Harmony, Whitson, ValNav, and/or Enersight.
- Familiarity with ENVERUS Prism, Spotfire, Power BI, or other analytics tools.
- Competency in reserves evaluation methodologies and SEC reserves guidelines.
- Hands-on experience in economic modeling, asset valuation, and performance forecasting.
- Knowledge of completions optimization, lateral length analysis, well spacing impacts, and field development planning.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, communicate technical findings, and drive business impact.
- P.Eng designation (APEGA) or eligibility preferred.
- Knowledge of BCOGC regulations and Canadian onshore operations is beneficial.
